POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION CURE ???

Our transmission for the 5 speed AT is the RE5F22A aka AW55-50

This same transmission is featured in some other makes besides Nissan (Volvo, Saab, Saturn, Chevrolet and Pontiac.

I came across this procedure (click on the link below) that was used on a Saturn.

It describes a possible cure for the reverse to drive, hard slam, that is one of many problems, with our transmission valve bodies.

Please read through the entire thread.

Any comments suggestions are greatly appreciated.

It would be unimaginable, if this were to fix the reverse slam issue and at the same time correct the other valve body problems.

I would say I already tried that but in different way. I drove only 10 minutes instead of 30 minutes what that post have suggested. The best transmission fluid additive is transtune made by the same company who makes seafoam. My initial reaction was scary but it did not hurt anything after adding transtune in my transmission fluid. The results are mixed however I sure do get mild R-D and D-R slams compare to violent ones. You don't need a brick wall to do what that post suggested. You can do this in empty parking lot of mall after 6 pm on Sunday and keep driving in reverse for 30 minutes. That is the safest way I can consider. In theory this attempt may work or it may not work to fix your transmission issue. The best bet is to get the new or rebuild valve body before you end-up with more damage to your transmission. Until then do not release brake/clutch pedal until your transmission engage properly to protect your transmission against slams.

Just changing the trans fluid 3X, and driving 5 min in between stiwching gears solved my rough shifting issue completely.
