I spend a decent amount on gas every week. I have been noticing that my display shows that i average 19.7 mpg. I have never seen it change from that no matter how fast, slow or what highway i am on. Does anyone think it is right or do i need to have something checked out? I just replaced the airfilter last month. Maybe new plugs?

Don't ever rely on the computer's MPG display.

1. Get gas and fill the tank all the way up.
2. Set trip computer to zero.
3. Drive.
4. Get gas when you need it and fill all the way up again.
5. Print receipt and divide miles driven by the gallons put in the tank.
6. That's your gas mileage.

If you have an iphone or ipod there is a pretty cool app that does that for you!!! Its call road trip is free.

have you reset it? I always reset the MPG gauge every time I fill up. You just have to hold the button until it turns to stars (*****). Also do like Waxima said to compare the MPG gauge with what you are actually getting which is done by using Waxima's steps.

19 is crazy. I get a combined 24-25mpg with 30mpg on the freeway. My commute is 65 miles round trip and I fill up once every 4-5 days.

I just picked up my car on Saturday and I have driven 2-300 miles already and the computer shows 22.3 MPG but it really seems like it is closer to the 25-26 range.

Winter gas = worse mileage. I average 23ish in the warm months and I've getting a hair over 21 the last couple of tanks. No changes in the car or my driving.

at least you guys are not paying $1.14 per liter - that's the price today in Toronto for 87 octane.... I agree with jasoneon, I get the worst gas mileage in the winter months - it's brutal

Damn, thats crazy. I am in NJ where I think they say we have the lowest gas prices in the country. It sucks that the state of NJ will rape your pocket everywhere else so it more than evens out....

I did the NWS spacer kit and replaced the plugs with NGK Iridium. Getting around 21.5 now.

I think that im having the same problem with my car. i dont think its getting anywhere near the right amount of gas mileage. i fill up and drive on the hwy it reads btw 21-22 mpg in the city its reading around 14-15. Any way to get my gas mileage back to where it should be?

wow.. you guys get horrible mph... I don't know what you all are doing but i consistantly get above 25 city and 32+ highway. maybe most of you haven't gotten CAI and exhaust? with my cut out open and me trying to conserve i have averaged 36mpg at 55 mph from sacramento to San Diego, This including some city driving in between. cutout closed i have gotten 22 city and 29-31 highway.

didn't just read the MPG display, I calculated it as i went from full to empty during my trip and my display is pin point perfect.

It just depends what kind of city you drive...... i used to get 13 in montreal, now I get like 30... same car.

I dont think its the city or the car. All driver. Some states put stuff in the fuel also that changes the mileage. Nebraska: Corn Cali: Tree hugger stuff so on and so forth. I average 24.7 and drive it pretty hard so I figure about 30 hwy and 18 city.
Spark plugs helped and exhaust and CAI are coming so I hope I can pull the mileage that twentyeggs is getting!

also clean the throttle intake,kinda easy to do, u just gonna need 1 person to spray the can into the intake while u or the other person accelerates(parked of course lol) this helps a lot. also if u kno how to clean your MAF sensor while u @ it, ur max wil thank u.

I'm only getting 240-250 miles to a tank, that translates to 15-17 mpg 95% city 5% highway. Lots of crappy stop and go traffic. I know I can improve it a little but sad to say I've had bad mpg in all my cars I think its just the traffic and stop and go streets here in chicago, theres a stop light or stop sign every couple blocks

i consistently get 14-15 MPG even with my full catback exhaust, having just cleaned my throttle body, and running seafoam through the manifold and gas while trying to drive efficiently. what am i doing wrong!?!? I am pretty sure my timing chain is going. could that have something to do with it?

Heck here in Southern Cal its about 4.30 on average for 93 (seen as high as 4.51), you might find 1 place for the 87 thats under 4 but thats rare.

Wow when I had my 2004 Maxima I would only get 14-16 MPG that was mostly city now I have the M35X and I'm getting 14 MPG 19-20 highway but from what the guys over at NICO are saying thats about right for the 07 M35X I was told you want to play you have to pay so if you guys are get 29-34 MPG be gratefull plus I have 20" rims I'm sure doesn't help

I think this thread is funny, ever thought that maybe the Maxima is just a gas pig?I have another thread like this other members said they same I have learned, it's not friendly on gas at all. You would expect more from Nissan, but they got this car wrong

I wouldn't call it a gas hog, it's about average for this size of car. I average 22-23 mpg which is probably 60% city driving. The few long trips I have been on I've gotten 27-28 mpg at 70mph. My only complaint is it turns 2,500 rpm in 6th gear at 70mph. It could get 30 mpg if 6th gear or the differential were geared a little lower like the 02-03's.
