Possible Alternator Replacement?

Short story: My ABS/TCS/Slip lights came on after I replaced a battery and they continue to stay on while driving. After I cut the car off, I started getting this whining noise from the engine bay that only goes away after I disconnect the battery. When I connect the battery back, the whining noise comes back.

I replaced the battery last Saturday, and yesterday my battery light came on. I started driving home and everything was normal on the highway. After I get on the off ramp, I pressed the accelerator and no gas is going to the engine. Everything is on and working, but I am unable to accelerate.

My lights and radio all work.

Could this be my alternator or another electrical problem?

There are ~113K miles on the car and never had the alternator replaced before.

Time for a change,

I have a 2000 Maxima as well and over the weekend my ALT went nuts and reverse the polarity on my charging system.

I didnt even get the warning battery brake lights.. with 120xxx miles on my 5th gen , I would say you would probally need to change yours.

another way to test it , if you have mulitmeter , check the battery if its charging 12.1 and up and then go to the alternator and check the voltage on the Alternator side.

If you dont have that mulitmeter or mechianicly incline, take it to your local advance and autozone and have them check it.

or another way is start the car, take the terminal side off the post , and see if the car dies.. if the car dies out ALT needs to be changed.

Disconnect the positive side from the battery? Is that what you mean?

I've never heard that, and this is good to know..

Thanks. I had a multimeter around here somewhere, but pretty sure it will take me a while to find it, if I find it at all. Just went outside and car will not crank now as the battery is dead......

I dont recommend anyone to really do that, thats if you dont have a multimeter or get your car to autozone or advance..

Don't disconnect the battery while it's running that is horrible advice. Get the charging system checked properly.

Had the alternator replaced and solved my problem. But now my brake, SES, Slip lights are still all on and will not turn off. I disconnected the battery over night and the SES light went off for a while and came back on. Fun times with the Maxima.
