Anybody have a trailer hitch on their maxima?

I'm moving across the country and want to be able to take a few items with me before I pack and sell my house. I would like to rent one of those 4*8 uhaul trailers. Does anyone know if my 2004 Max would work for this. If so, is this something I can install myself? I'm pretty good at doing my own work on the car as long as I have proper instructions. Any recommendations are welcome. thanks

Don't do it man, our cars aren't made for that type of stuff. Just rent a u-haul or borrow someones truck or something.

Yeah, it lists in the spec for these cars up to 1000LB towing weight, so it certainly can be done on an infrequent basis.

There's some really good advise in that thread linked by JaTaN...

You would never catch me hooking up a trailer hitch and pulling anything especially with the tranny issues these cars have(I have a 6 gen) don't know how good the CVT is with pulling but if I had the CVT I still wouldn't pull anything!!! Listen to the quote up above not worth ruining anything.

If you need to really tow this stuff, then be considerate of your overall added weight in the trailer and in the car so you don't go over the maximum. Also, if you are going to do it during warm/hot weather, then get yourself a tranny cooler kit and slap it on.

My recommend is DO NOT do this. Our cars are low even before a drop, you fill a 4x8 trailer and attach it to the back of the car??, it's going to sag bad. (I bet you will have the trunk and interior full too) Not to mention these transmissions aren't known for being hardy.

Spend the extra cash, rent a big U-Haul and car dolly and just pull the Maxima.

Right, because cool should always triumph over necessity...
