Magnaflow Mufflers vs. Cheap catback system. opinions?

I used to have flowmasters on my '04 SE, but thanks to my ex-wife, I had to put on some stockers. I was looking at going back with just mufflers, but the Magnaflows are gonne be $400 and I can get a full system for a little over $200. I'm thinking the magnaflows sound better.

I have a Magnaflow with 4" dual outlets on my 02....it sounds great....gives a deep rumble....not that high pitched fart cannon crap.....google maxima magnaflow and you could watch videos with it on.....that's what I did before I purchased.

Megan Racing FTW - I got them from one of the local guys that my mechanic had as he calls it " asian connections" with. Ended up paying about the same as the Vibrant Performance ones that Oolatec posted - both are quality products and I actually looked at the 1148's before going with the Megan Racing ones - just ended up getting a better deal on these ones ->

Did you put tips on them or leave them black? I wonder how that would look...

Yeah, those are readily available on ebay, for just a little less than the THM ones.

If you are not looking for something out of this world look no further than magnaflow 14807s. Nice deep sound that isn't going to get you in trouble.

Here is my old vid, in actuality it sounds deeper.

Changing out the resonator would also be a good option. Free up the exhaust flow and give you a little more sound. Might be the cheaper route too. The stock resonator is a beast, any res that looks like this on the inside should be fine.

Very nice! Makes me want headers, but with having bought a new transmission, I think dropping it is higher on the list for now.

Hey everyone,

I simply removed my resonator all together. With stock mufflers, the sound was barely noticable. You can have it done for less than 100$ with a straight tube. I now have two Altima SE-R mufflers. i heard they are very close to the Nismos. I eventually want to get rid of the crimped pipe below the gas tank.

Left them black. Sleeper look... doesn't attract attention. I think they looked awesome on my silver '04!

Here's what I sounded like... I had headers/y-pipe/Greddy SP2 which I chopped off the resonator and mufflers... and added the Magnaflow res and Vibrant mufflers.

Nismo. Nice deep rumble and get lots of looks. Maxima.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkMBMgGSQHM
Sounds like the FX..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQldc...eature=related and 350Z.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGcsd047zV8

Depending on what kind of ypipe or bpipe it can change the sound.

imo, interior first, then exterior. and then whatever in between, then muffler. Please dont go cheap on your car, you use it everyday.

Wait a minute, you have a greddy sp2, but with a magnaflow res and vibrant mufflers? So it's just greddy pipes? Kind of expensive for pipes isn't it?

Ok, gotcha! Well, there is that eBay knock-off of the Greddy SP2 system that a few guys here have... and they seem to like it quite a bit!

You could go that route, and chop off the mufflers that come with it, and go with Vibrants. You'd be golden then! I did that with my actual Greddy SP2 system.

I got the SP2 years ago when it first came out. I had headers installed early '09 and just couldn't stand the rasp. I enjoyed the Greddy as it came for a few years so it was worth it to me to make the changes.

check your local exhaust shops and price up a custom mandrel bent system. That is definitely another good option.

I am new here guys and I have just taken th 07 max from wife and gave her the tahoe.. I keep nothing plane, but I have a question. is there any way to get the sound of say a G35 out of the 07 max. I dont want it to sound like a pissed off weed eater. I have already change things to the car but wish it had that sound.

Be careful with removing the resonator and using magnaflows. I have magnaflows and ended up putting on 2 straight through resonators on because the drone was so bad.

Not sure how that will sound. The stock mufflers are garbage in my opinion. Just be very careful how you do the exhaust because I have never had a car that has the drone problems like this one.

A Maxima won't sound like a G. Different cars. You can however, improve the tone of the Maxima.

Agreed. Main difference is on the Maxima the motor is mounted transversly because it is front drive.

It won't ever sound like. It sounds great with the magnaflows. It just has a lot of drone. So I think mine is perfect now. I used these.

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...e=main&id=8252

Then I ended up putting 2 straight through resonators on and it sounds excellent. I think they are 23 inch resonators.
