Do we not have a light under the hood?

I didn't see one while checking the oil today. Do we not have one?

I have White LED lights on the underside of the hood for night meets and I think a few members also have them.

Did you use a mercury switch to turn them on when the hood is lifted or did you install a manual on/off switch?

edit: I'm interested in doing this. With, the summer heat in Mississippi, we get heat indexes of 110 F. I actually like to do my car work at night when it is only ~90 F.

Wow, I just realized that there is no light. I guess it makes sense, since most people with cars this new don't bother opening the hood for repairs or even checking the oil.

I noticed in 1996 that Nissan had no light under the hood, those who miss a light under the hood, what was your previous car, or last car with a functioning light under the hood.

My '89 Olds had one, the Max doesn't.

Seen lots of people get cool results by just wiring up some good LEDs in the hood.

On the 4th gen, there is a little "plunger" above the driver's side headlight to tell whether the hood is open - does the 6th gen have one too? If so, that might be able to wire the lights to come on when the hood is open.

My '94 Mercury Cougar had one that automatically turned on when the hood was lifted. I'm not sure where the switch was, never could find it.

93 F-250 has one, so did my 87 cougar. Ford was good for it for sure. A write up should be done on how to install and what LED boards to get.

My last car with a light under the hood was a 93 MarkVIII, haven't seen a car with a hood light ever since. I still have the light in my tool box, built in mercury switch. When it was totaled I took a few things the junk yard didn't need...

You can buy a light that plugs into the power outlet or one that comes with clips that attach to your battery terminals.

older cars all had them, people still used to work on their own cars back then. nowadays, if a car breaks down, people call a tow, they wouldnt know what to look for. so they dont put lights underneath the hood anymore. no need, nobody uses them.

i got an LED maglight next to my seat that works juuuuuuust fine

I agree. I'm not scared of the dark either. Those of us who can work on cars know that you need both hands to work. My flash light always ends up cradled between my neck and shoulder for that reason. It would be uber convenient to have the light already their under the hood to avoid having to carry and hook up a drop light in an emergency.

That is why you should always have something next to you in your seat. You never know when bad guys might need to be taken down.

I would think the LEDs be okay...as long as you don't try and mount them ON the engine...
