State Inspection due and Service Engine Light On Again

It's been a few weeks since I last checked in here, and at that time it was because my service engine light on my 06 max had come on for the first time. I found out that was due to the 02 censor, and replaced it. Now , 2 days before the end of the month, on my way to the shop to get the car inspected, the light comes on again \

I decide to wait, and head to work, and verify if anyone knows this question.
In VA, can you fail a state safety inspection because the service engine light is on? I imagine it may have been triggered on due to my gas cap not being sealed, but wont have much time to find out for certain.

disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes to connect again. Then make sure your gas cap is tight and drive straight to get your inspection done. If it's a ways away then stop and disconnect the battery again before you get to the place. Pull in and get it done. Usually won't come back on right away. Worth a shot. If they do a smog test and you fail you are covered by nissan for work needed to make the smog test. Check state laws and car's manual. I believe anything emissions related is covered for 80k miles or something like that.

once you reset by disconnecting the battery, you have to set your data monitors. if 3 of 4 of your monitors are not set then you cannot run your emissions. if the vehicle finds an error trying to set these monitors then it will trip a check engine light. so you can't just delete the code and run to an emissions station. also po8pimp is correct about the emissions warranty. you are covered 8years/80,000miles.

disconnecting battery wont work, the ECU has to run checks, and if you reset, or clear the check engine light with a computer, you will fail, i think after you clear the code, you have to drive like a week or so for the ECU to do the checks it needs to do. and the emmision stations will know if you cleared it or not. you just have to know someone on the inside, or if your car is too low, then you wont have to go thru it.

I totally forgot about that, thanx guys for backing me on that. I haven't had to do smog tests for like 7 years so I totally forgot they can find that stuff out. You would have to use a code reader/clearer to clear the codes and hope that once your ecu reads all the sensors that everything checks out fine. I recommend go to autozone or a shop where you can have the codes read and cleared and have them do it. Then check the gas cap again. Drive about 50 miles and then have the same shop check the codes again. My reader will give a green light if you are within emissions standards. Bought it for $100 at Autoport here in Hawaii. Good luck hope all works out. Also if your car is a 2008 model you should not have to do any smog related checks until 2011. You should have a 2 year pass/garentee from the Dealer. I got that when I bought mine. Wait, if it is a 2008 take it to Nissan and have them fix it. 3 year 36k mile warrenty. They will fix everything for free. 5 year 60k mile for powertrain.

Autozone won't clear codes in my area any more, just read them for some legal reason. If you have the same problem, follow the link below to a procedure to clear the codes. It is listed as being for the 350Z, but will work on our cars as well. Timing is crucial.

update -
well i didnt have to do any of the above, because my light went out yesterday on its own. Im assuming it was the gas cap being loose or soemthing. I am taking the car to the station tomm.

On a side note, a friend of mine just failed his inspection because the tint that was already on his 07 maxima he bought was legally too dark in the front.

So I would like to bounce off you fellow 6th gens how bad I probably messed mine up....

So I to prepare my car for a road trip, I did the sea foam to the intake manifold, oil and gas tank, performed an oil change and I also sprayed throttle body cleaner. An issue with the throttle body cleaner was that the butterfly valve wouldn't open when stepping on the gas. I used the plastic end of a screwdriver to hold it open while spraying.

4 days into the trip, the CEL came on. The code was about high revolution. After clearing it, it was all good.

That was 2 weeks ago. Today, the temperature read -22 and the CEL came back. I turned off the car and waited 15 minutes. When I turn the car back on, it says i have an empty tank with the low fuel light on, the CEL on and the AC on @ 75 degrees half-full blast. This code, P0463 (pd) read : fuel tank level. sensor circuit high input. Also, when I take the key out, the AC lights are still on.

I drove 10 minutes to my house where I put the stock airbox back on and disconnected the battery for 20 minutes. Car drove fine with no problems for 5 minutes until the door ajar icon was blinking but the info screen did not detect it. It went away on its own after another 5 minutes. Now everything seems back to normal. WTF?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
