leaking ac hose

OK, so i too have a leaking upper AC hose. The shop says that both hoses need to be replaced. They refilled the freon and my air blows cold again. My question is, is it better to run the AC or not to run it to slow the leak down? I'll be getting it replaced in about 2 weeks.

It probably won't make any difference if the system is used or not. A leak is a leak. This time of year in Atlanta, the static pressure when the system is off could easily reach 85-90 psi. Use it, be comfortable while waiting to get it fixed.

BTW, why are you waiting? Funds? If so, I completely understand.

mine stopped working last fall... my buddy evacuated the system which and kept negative pressure, which it held.

he filled it with about 1.5lbs of refrigerant and dye.... a few weeks later, i found the leak in the upper hose (green oil). until the air gets warm again, im going to leave it.

Im having the same problem with my 06 max... I took it to nissan and both the high preesure(upper) hose and the low pressure hose on my car had leaks... All they had to do was tighten the upper hose and the leak stopped... the service advisor said the freon should last longer now because the upper hose was leaking the most freon... I still have to get my low pressure hose changed... They say thats going to cost close to 400 dollars... so i took my car to autozone and bought some freon and recharged my system myself... it lasted for two weeks... i then went to autozone again and bought some more freon, but this time i bought the kind with the leak sealant inside it. My a/c has been blowing cold going on 3 months now...

well, there are many other a/c system components that could contribute to the failure of the system- hoses (well, actually o-rings) are the least expensive.

compressor, condenser, evap.--- lots of costly parts in there.

Interesting! I wonder if there's any possibility of gunking up the system using freon with leak sealant in it?

I had this problem in my 05 SL. I had a low pressured hose leak. My cold never got cold and I had to recharge every 8 months ( i live in arizona). After 450 replacing the hose at the stealership. my AC is FREAKING COLD (50 degrees) and I haven't had to recharge it after 9 months so far. I didn't realize fixing that hose made a huge difference.
