I know that Nissan does not sell a filter for our cars, they say it never needs to be changed, I disagree. So, I was thinking, they sell the filter for a 02/03. Has anyone tried to see if the 02/03 Max's filter will fit in our Max's? My 05 is about to hit 100k, I want to do this and change my plugs.

Call few dealers and ask. if they tell you the same thing, then don't mess with it. Don't attempt something that you'll regret later bro... be careful.

You could always replace the assembly underneath the back seat, fits right inside the gas tank from there.
It's called the "Fuel Level Sensor Unit, Fuel Filter and Fuel Pump assembly". I think it's around $3-$400 at best guess.

But I'd do the research first and find out why their filter doesn't need to be replaced.
It may "cleanse" itself while in the tank with each fill up, thus putting the contamination back into the tank.
Which means, you'd probably need to clean or replace the tank and the assembly to achieve a "fully clean" fuel system.

But chances are, unless you got bad gas or someone put rice inside,
you shouldn't need to do this as part of regular maintenance.

I own a 03 as well, and Nissan says they do not need to be replaced as well, but sell a filter for it. the filter is indide the pump inside the tank. i replaced that one, very easy job. That filter was only $13, well worth it! The 6th gen's are very similar. Just curios if anyone has tried this yet?

I've had my fuel assembly out to change the fuel pump (Walbro 255), cleaned the whole assembly which was surprisingly clean. Didn't note any filter per say to clean or change but anyway this is the 6th Gen assembly removed.

What I don't understand is why would someone feel the need to change it every year when we can only use high-grade gas in our Max's anyway? I never used below 91 octane gas, and only use Chevron or Shell V-Power, which keeps the system clean anyway... why change the filter every year?

Grade of gasoline is based on octane rating which is related to it's combustion properties. It has nothing to do with cleanliness. There is also supposed to be a filter in the gas station fuel pump.

I have over 100,000 miles on my max and so far I see no reason to change the filter.

hi guy i have 2006 maxima also wanted to try to change the fuel filter but the dealer say i do not need it until the pump go out . can any body tell the part number or where i can get one at thank you

You should listen to the dealer, the filter is part of the pump!!! It's not a seperate filter that runs in-line with the fuel line like older cars!

thank you for respond chernmax, my 06 maxima got 108000 miles it doesn't want to start up in the morning and runs rough. i took it to the local service mechanic he told me that it seem like there is not enough pressure in my fuel line meaning either the filter or the pump is going bad so make a long story short i try to see if i can clean the filter before change out the pump.
