CVT in 05 max
#7
It would suck but yes I would get rid of it. Ive heard about ppl spending 3-4K on tranny replacement/upgrade and most have had problems rite after. So to me its not worth it.
With the money it could potentially cost u why not just trade it in for a CVT version?

I am pretty sure the CVT's have a different tranny. The 07-08 models are still too new for people to have tranny problems. I have yet had any problems and i have not heard of anyone else having a CVT with Tranny problems.

The ECU is entirely different, which would add to the cost of the swap...at that point a 6-speed swap would be better :P.
You could always swap in the old 4AT...proven reliability, although it doesn't perform as good as the 5-speed....

not sure how much it is to replace it in the States but it's hell expensive here bro...
as most have said, you would be better off grabbing a new max...I know it would suck b@ll$ to get rid of my max if I had an issue like that but what you gotta think about is how will the car perform after the replacement is installed...
best of luck with your decision bro....

I think before you look at the CVT, look for an alterneate higher performance option. Chance are replacing/rebuilding the one you have now will run about $3000. Just for the sake of argument, Let's say you could put the CVT in...you could pay twice if not three times the other amount. Now we're talking as much as 9000. Is your 05 really worth that much blue book?
See if there are better transmissions that could be put into that car as is, without remanufactuing the car.

my tranny went in my auto 00 max and i paid about $2300 for a rebuild. i kept the car because i paid it off about a year prior,it was well after the warranty expired unfortunitly. thankfully (knock on wood) my car has been fine after a year later. as for the cvt swap i wouldnt recommend opening up that can of worms u mite as well either try to find a sick upgraded one or rebuild the one u already have if u wont/cant get a new car.
