Steering wheel radio/cruise buttons...

Anyone know how to remove the controls on the steering wheel for the radio and cruise controls? Do you have to remove the airbag to do so?

I was wondering about the same thing, when i wanted to upgrade to the 06'+ lighting control buttons. The one and only info in the FSM is about removing the airbag and nothing else. In my opinion the airbag should be removed. Maybe DeusExMaxima could help, cuz he replaced his steering wheel not long time ago and went aftermarket...

Here are some pics of his steering wheel, but not sure if that could help you

Hey, I appreciate your pics and response, and yea I'm trying to do the same thing and put in the '06 buttons that light up, I wonder if it's worth the effort and if they will actually light up, plug and play

I could see that mod as taping into the cruise control buttons to control something else. I absolutely NEVER use this feature.

you just pull them out... it's just clips... i did an 06 with leds... just pull toward you...no need to take the airbag out... i was also thinking of doing the 06 buttons on mine

thealliance43 or anyone else have some updated info on the buttons - if they are plug and play or so?

Does the '06 has more wires because of the illumination, so the connectors are different?

I also noticed that the cruising control on/off button for the '04-05 is located in the middle, while for the '06 is on the bottom...

Any electrical GURU on here with wiring diagrams for both models?
