Quick review.
The Indonesian brand GT Radial was ranked No 1 for the "best value tire", by the American auto magazine, Motor, in July 2006. Created in 1951, the small bike tires factory has become the largest tire manufacturer in the South-East of Asia. On an international scale, GT Radial has won its place in top 20. Located in the middle of a natural environment favourable to its development, where rubber is one of the most important resources, GT Radial attracts with its tires' quality, conceived to meet the needs of all consumers. These tires are known in almost 100 countries, for their technological virtues and their modern look. They thus seduced Michelin, who bought a significant part of its shares in 2005. A wonderful business opportunity seized by Michelin, if we remember that GT Radial has always collaborated with sounding brands, like Pirelli, BF Goodrich or Yokohama.

I have also been very very happy with my Yokahama YK520s, but they are handled EXCLUSIVELY by Discount Tire, which does not have stores in some states.

your location is not listed but if you are looking for high performance summer tires go with BFG G-Force hands down.

For what it's worth, the F1 tires I bought are very impressive thus far. It feels as though the tires are glued to the street, tha's how precise the handling is. I glide through the rain, and puddles. Very good tires, for a very good price on tirerack.com

I would also recommend the Yokohoma ES100. However, after you hit 4,000 miles, those tires wear out significantly and the noise is very loud.

I'm in northern Illinois and we have been getting hammered with snow. I'm leaning towards the F1'S AS becuase of the winter weather they are rated almost as high as the pole position by bridgestone but the f1's handled better according to the reviews . If I'm going to fork out the money I want the best of both worlds.

Why 225?

You can/should go with at least 255 with 8.5 wide wheels...at least 245, unless you want a drifter look of your tires being tucked in way beyond your wheels.

I've had 245/45/18 on 18x9 wheel in my last setup and it looked perfect. Better than the same tire on 18x8, not to mention the benefits of such setup.

^^^ as project said, don't do 225, you going to have some skinny-@ss tire on your car. It won't look right.

...I could tell you personally, that these tires are very good. I might not experience its characteristics in snow (seeing how I live in Miami), but based on the reviews on how it handles on dry and wet surfaces and based on my own "testing", trust me it's accurate. I'm still in the "break in" phase of the tires (have about 350 miles on them) so I know I have yet to experience the true functionalities of this tires. If they're this good now, I can't wait how they'll be once they are broken in fully.

Does anyone have experience with Champiro tires making excessive noise at low speeds but quiet at higher speeds?

GO with Goodyear GTs. Great bang for the buck. That is my next set to replace factory goodyear RSA in December. I already have them on lay-way at discount tire! Great reviews!

I have stock tire size of 225 / 55 / 17 , what tire size

do you guys suggest I change to, and why ?, I have no idea what size would look good.

My rims get easily scratched against the curbs because the (stock tire size) tire is more or less flush with the rim.

would going to a wider tire effect gas mileage

Sorry I don't know much about tires, but would like to stay with the 95 V rated tires.

I currently have Michelin MXV4 plus 95 V, they handle real good at hwy speeds wet and dry, but suck when cornering ( almost have to come to a stand still).

Thanks

What is your rim size? 17x??

Go with GoodYear GTs. Stick to tar like glue! Takes corners like going on an open straight wide road. That is what I am getting. Go to discount to read reviews of other tires. Might help you make a choice.

Rim size is 17, I guess, since orig tires are 225 / 55 /17

does this apply to 17" rims as well ?

Yes very loud noises. These tires perform very well and it grips the road perfect in all conditions but they are just to loud. If you dont mind the noise then stick with these tires they are a good bang for the buck. Me personally i am getting rid of them. I cant take the noise. If i have my music playing its all good but without music its terrible.

I would avoid, I got them instead of the RSAs and the treadwear is horrid and when they get older they get dead spots and feel like crap.

Goodyear Eagle GT

I bought 4 Goodyear Eagle GT's for $700 installed at Discount Tire Co with price matching online. The grip and rain performance blew me away but I have taken my car back to them TWICE now to fix my steering wheel shimmy. I'm not sure if the weights are falling off or if the tire won't seat right on the rim. If they do this one more time I get a set a brand new tires so... well see!

I had top-of-the-line Goodyear SUV tires on my silverado and they were a pain to keep balanced. Even the staff at the Goodyear shop said Goodyears were difficult to balance. They said the Dunlops were easier to deal with, and I switched to Dunlops and had fewer issues, but still good traction. I believe Dunlop is Goodyear's "economy" tire. But they don't come in alot of sizes. I wanted some for my Altima and couldn't get the right size.
