34 mpg?! So your Maxima must be hybrid.

I see you have 20" chrome wheels. Hope you know that the weight of wheels is one of the most sensitive to mpg. That might be your reason for low mpg.
Yes but my wifes Max is all stock. Clean air filter, oil changed. tires inflated. Still have never seen over 24mpg.

I got similar mileage yesterday in about 60 miles of city/highway driving when I set my cruise contol at 60mph on the interstate. I also coasted to each stop and didn't let the tach spin over 2500rpm.

It was annoying as hell, but driving normally only gets me about 22 or 23 mpg. What made me slow down was putting $72.06 of premium unleaded in my tank. I realized that I spent $210 on gas alone last month. You can best believe that this will be my new driving style.

I for some reason cant drive below the speedlimit on the hwy. Gotta be doing atleast 70mph. How much is gas by you? If you filled up 18 gallons @ $3.50 a gallon is like $63.

Well, I forgot that I added a car wash for $8, so it was actually 18 gallons at 3.559 for a total 64.06. I knew that receipt looked strange. And then I forgot to go get the damn car wash!!!!!!!!!!!

Damm - $63!!! Never thought it was that much to fill up our tanks as I never let my tank needle drop below midtank so I don't feel raped at the pump. I know I know.... I am still being raped regardless.... but at least psychologically I can deny it.

At 18 gallons must have had the light on for awhile.. I usually get about 15.4 gallons and thats right as it comes on. So for me thats just over $50.

Drove 12+ hours on highway one time and my reading went from 25.xx to 33.xx due to constant driving on highway. So yeah it's possible....

I just took a trip to Detroit from Chicago this past weekend and I got this reading. This was the initial reading but after 15 minutes it dropped down to 36 mpgs. The 36 mpgs stayed for most of the trips until I reached the hilly section of the interstate. It dropped to 34.2 after that and stayed constant.

I just did a mix of city and highway and recorded 24.2MPG - tank costs $90 right now in Ontario, Canada for 94 octane.

I filled up with 94 Octane Sunoco gas in Mi. It cost 3.53 per gallon. It actually burned slower than the 93 Octane that I normally use.

From the looks of things other people have gotten the same or better results. Try using cruise control at 60 on the highway before you discredit someone.

I wasn't discreting you man. I was j/k as I had never seen such mpg! And the problem that we have here in FL is that if I do 60mph on any highway, people will run over me!

If you trust the onboard computer mpg then you are abpout 10% optimistic. At least that has been my experience with 4th and 5th gen maximas.

If it says I'm averaging 30mpg, I'm really getting 27mpg when I check actual miles against gallons used.

If you drive from 40-50mph, you will get great mpg. The higher mph you go, the less mpg you get. In my MAX I can get 35mpg at 45mph, 32mpg at 55mph, 30mpg at 60mph and 28mpg at 65mph. If you drive hard, you will get less mpg. I also have a 3000GT VR4 and it is the same but 10mpg less at every mph range. I guess same thing applies to almost every car.

30+ MPG in a Max seems very optimistic doing highway speeds. I wish I could touch that.

Anything showing up on the display is an estimate and not an actual mpg that a person actually gets. In other words, it's a bunch of bs LOL

I only 25mpg with my Maxima. I use to own a Honda Fit and I thought I knew how to drive gas conservingly. With this car its a whole 'nother ball game because the Fit tricks dont seem to work as well.

Long intestate/highway drive with minimum breaking gives really good mpg reading.

i agree with the other poster. How trustworthy is the on board computer ?

Anyone tried the old fashioned way, reset the trip, run it on the highway or city, filled the tank up and did the calculations mentally - (instead of relying on the computer display).

just curious. I am gonna do mine manually the next time. I get around 23 but mine is mostly city driving and in the winter I expect alteast a 10% drop in the mileage. Not sure if that applies to maximas or not. I guess I will find out soon.

Possible in certain conditions. I've done as high as 34 on 2 hour trips without stopping or traffic.

I once reset mine going down a hill on an interstate and it read 46 for a good while before shooting back down to the 30s when the interstate leveled out. And of course when I got off it dropped back to the lower 20s again.

BUT

When I changed my spark plugs the MPG has been like 1 or 2 MPG higher ---just sayin'

oh and do you wanna save gas, play a little game that I do... do not let your RPM rev about 2000. You might not fly out of an intersection but you will notice that needle slow down as it creeps to Empty. its challenging trust me!

I drove my car on the expressway for about 40 miles straight between 65 and 75. Some on cruise some not.

The trip was reset just prior to me entering the highway.

The display showed 30.5 MPG after driving for 40 miles. It has brand new spark plugs, new air filter and oh by the way I use regular gasoline. I am going to try premium next month once I get everything fixed on this car. My guess is in the summer and with premium I would expect no less than 33 MPG which is fabulous for a car this powerful.
