Could my MAF be going?

Could my MAF be going?
I was at a stop light and on green I step on the gas. The car feels extremely sluggish and come to realize the transmission won't move out of 5th gear.
I'm still trying to go but the car won't rev past 2.5-3krpms and it's stuck in 5th. My SAFC goes blank. I pull to the side, shut the car off and start it up again and everythings normal.
About 20 minutes later, same thing. I read the CEL codes and it says something about low signal from MAF as well as the normal codes from the AF sensors in the headers.
Think the MAF might be dirty? or just failing?

Oh, like I said, I haven't touched the filter in 2 years. And no, it does not need oil, matter of fact AEM says not to use oil. It's supposed to be a maintenance free filter meaning you don't have to change it with every oil change.

Here's what AEM says:
Frequency of cleaning for your DRYFLOW filter will depend on the conditions in which you drive. As a rule, we recommend that you clean your filter a minimum of every 30,000 miles, inspect it during oil changes and regular service intervals, and clean it if it appears to be reaching its dust holding capacity. If you live in particularly arid, dusty climates or venture off road, we recommend cleaning the filter every 3-5,000 miles.

I guess that was a key point to me. You havent even checked it for 2 years. You could have have gotten into something and made it real dirty.

I inspected the filter but didn't take any photos cause wifey has the camera. The filter wasn't THAT dirty and there was absolutely no dirt on the inside. I took it off and cleaned it anyway; it's in the process of drying. The MAF is next.

I inspected the MAF and it's clean, flawless, no dirt at all. But I think I may have found the problem; I suspected this yesterday but it was hard to believe. It appears that my glovebox was pinching my SAFC cord. I've kept my SAFC outside the glovebox for a little over a year now with the cord running back to the glovebox. I thought the cord had plenty of room as it was only slightly pinching it. But I noticed that when my car hesitated the SAFC would reset. I put the SAFC back in the glovebox and I'm not noticing the problem anymore. Weird.
