Climate control problem, when i press inside air, the A/C turns on

I dont know why my max is doing this, but ever since i bought it used, it has always had this problem. whenever i press the inside air button, the a/c turns on. if i turn the a/c off, it auto swtiches to outside air. I can not turn the inside air without the a/c turning on. This is getting particularly annoying because its winter time. Has anyone else experienced this?

Same here with my 04' Max. I think that's purposely made by Nissan. Maybe they wanted to make our lives easier with the fogging windshields, but made exactly the opposite

"Do not use the recirculation mode for
long periods as it may cause the interior
air to become stale and the windows to
fog up."

That's little bit silly since the A/C switches ON

OK, another situation.
Why everytime when i press the mode button and set the heater to blow to windshield and to legs, the A/C turns on?

The old days where the AC was only used sometimes in hot weather are long gone. The trend these days is for the AC to be on when almost any function of the HVAC system is in use. This annoys folks who are used to turning their AC on and off as they see fit, but will probably be the norm in all mid-to-upscale passenger cars in the near future.

The intent is to keep the inside of the windows clear at all times, and this usually does a good job of that. But this inability to have control over the AC will take some folks a while to get used to. It bothered me for several years, but now I don't even notice it.

For those who are wondering, having the AC compressor running in the old days meant a slightly lower MPG in large cars, and a noticable drop in MPG in small cars, particularly if the engine was small. But having the AC compressor run these days, especially in a car with the power of the Maxima, does not seem to noticeably affect MPG. At least on this 700 mile trip I frequently take, I am measuring the same MPG in summer with the AC going full blast as in the fall when I have the HVAC system is completely off.

dejavu...

i'm confused on the question since i thought the answer was obvious.

better question would be, "why does nissan bother to tell us the A/C is functioning with a light, while other makers just keep it running and the operator ignorant?"

AUTO is your friend. pairs nicely with 72-75

but it is bad b/c the only time you should turn it off is possibly in the hot summer if you don't want cold air. so many are turning it off in the winter with old thinking while it is designed to be on.

If I have the AC on in the winter I'll be freezing. I always turn mine off right away. If I leave it on what do I set the temperature for, so I keep warm, and not freeze. Are you sure this won't break the AC?

Just read the manual it says to turn the AC off when using the heat.

well it doesn't exactly tell you to turn it off, just how to if you choose to:

point of interest under Heating (A/C off) "Not Recommended if windows fog up"

Look, for the last time, when the windows are fogging up it means there is too much moisture in the air and turning on the A/C compressor REMOVES the moisture, thus allowing the windows to be cleared of fog. In the hot, humid summer days, the A/C cools you not only by reducing the air temp but by REMOVING the excess MOISTURE from the air. A/C stands for air conditioner not air cooler, you won't be cold by running it in the winter. Obviously, Nissan has figured out most of its customers are too stupid to hit the A/C button when the defrost button is pushed so they are doing it for you by automatically turning on the A/C. Are we really this dense?! C'mon guys, lets not rehash this topic again!!! Can we close this thread now?
