Has anyone ever replaced their headlamp bulb?

My right headlight is out, and I dont want to take it to the dealer to have replace it.

I was wondering if anyone has done this before.

Was it easy? Where did you get the replacement bulb?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have the halogens or HID? If you have halogens then the bulb number is 9012. You can't find these in stores (at least I couldn't when I bought mine), but you can find them on Ebay for A LOT cheaper than what the stealership will charge. I changed mine awhile ago and it wasn't very difficult. I can't think of the exact procedure while I'm sitting here at work though.

Pretty sure I have the halogens (I assume these are the cheap ghetto bulbs).

Did you have to unplug the battery?

No you don't have to unplug the battery. And actually these halogens are somewhat of a new type of bulb. They're much brighter than your typical halogens. They also cost a bit more.

I replaced both the headlight and fog light. It's not hard at all. You can get the parts anywhere. Both regular bulbs if your car is non HID. You have to dsassemble stuff on both sides to gain access but it's If you need any help PM me.

I believe a 9006 will fit if you shave some plastic off the base. You should read up on the 9012s though. They're pretty cool as far as halogens go, but to each his own.

I just had to go through a hassle with + + + = 4 auto places to determine what type of bulb my car uses. I do not have HID bulbs but they kept insisting I had to purchase the 247.00 D2S headlight bulb for my headlight... I called the dealer 9 times that day and spoke to all different people who had no idea what light, other than the HID-D2S light I could use. Finally one used his head and the computer and looked it up in the manual and found that is was the 9012 HIR (High-Intensity Reflective) Light. Instead of trusting anyone I used the Net to find it and came across a site dediated to these types of lights. It was awesome and I learned that these lights are extrememly similar to HID and use less power. Yes, you can find the bulbs on Ebay for 25.00 which is way better than paying 83 at the dealer.

If you want to know about what your non-HID Max uses follow this link
http://www.finemotoring.com

Hopefully no one has to go through what I went through from 10:30 am til 7pm at night tryin to find a dayum headlight!!!

Also, when I first got my fogs, no one could understand why they were soo high and why they were in the front and the side. I also noticed that they didnt come on EVER... Until I went to an auto shop and they had to change the fuse which was too small (10 watt) so he recommended using a 20 watt fuse. The lights come on perfectly now. Anyone know about getting brighter fog lights?

ONE more thing..... I know in terms of brightness it wouldnt compare.. BUT would you still be able to use the 9006 silverstar ultra whites as an alternative to the 9012 HIR bulbs? Please let me know cuz I dont wanna spend 37 bucks on one of those for nothing!!! Let me know!!

Yes, as stated above, you can use the 9006s. You just have to shave some of the tab off on the bottom. Really, though, keeping the 9012s is the best thing. I know the Silverstars have a whiter look, but really the brightness of the 9012s is getting close to HIDs. Just depends what you want: the look or the quality

HID

If you have HID's listen to this...

I've got HID headlights on my '04 and I noticed that my passenger side headlight was out. I needed some new fogs anyway so I took my car apart and replaced my fogs. I bought the wrong style headlamps so I just pushed the passenger side HID headlamp back in and made sure it was in REAL tight! I put it all back together and both headlights worked perfectly.

I guess HID's have to make great connection in order to operate properly! I'd try this before buying new 100 some odd dollar headlamps....

To put new bulbs in is a piece of cake. You will need 1 flat tip, 1 phillips, a pair of pliers, a jack and jack stand. First jack up the side you want to change the bulb in and set the car down on a jack stand. Then using the phillips and the flathead remove the wheel well cover. You only have to remove from the front to the center top. there are two fastners that hold the wheel well cover to the inside cover at the front. those have to be taken off also. then the underside has a couple that need to be removed. once they are removed pull back the wheel well cover to gain access. then simply turn the cover for the bulb and remove the bulb. you can replace the 9012 with a 9006 but you need to cut about a quarter inch from one of the tabs. they fit snug after that so no need to worry. I switched from the 9012 to the Plasmaglow bulbs which come with a 10 year warrenty. If they burn out or anything happens I can return them for a free replacement up to 10 years. worth the cost of $42. Plus they have the glow of HIDs.

it may be that the left one was replaced due to the gas inside the bulb has depleted. but the right one should be on its way if your saying that its purple. when the bulb turns pink-ish or tan color then that means the bulb is dead. barely have enough xenon gas to light up the bulb. your best bet is to replace the bulb. the size your looking for on "ebay" or any other website is D2S - factory standards and kelvin is 4300k. Philips makes a great bulb the number is 85122.
