I have the noise at idle (04 SE 67k). Sound like a diesel. It is related to the fuel injectors and/or fuel dampers in the fuel rail. It is not a functional or durability issue, just an annoyance. One of these days I plan to remove the fuel rail and replace the dampers to determine. All 6th gen Maximas use Bosch fuel injectors and I believe this noise is inherent to them.

Kami: nice post.. so which oil are you going to get.. amsoil or some other brand? I was running royal purple on my 05 max with 54000 miles on it and it never tick. I think royal purple is great but its damn expensive. 1 oil change cost more than a dinner for 3. I might be trying the amsoil soon.

After my track day on Nov 11th I will try the 0W40 EuroFormula from Mobil1, then as soon as winter receeds I will go to AMSOIL Euro 5w40 weight. Both of thease based on my findings should reduce some of the "mechanical" ticking in the engine. The electronic ticking cannot be reduced with oil, best you can do is create some insulation for the injectors to dampen their noise.

An engine is an engine, why try to quiet down something that is supposed to create noise.

You are right.. however after some research on the internet i found out the prices of the amsoil is about the same with the royal purple. I might try to find a local dealer here and change it in 2 more weeks. I will be shooting for amsoil, just to try it out. Happy modding.

You can buy Amsoil products at dealer cost from Maxima.Org member
Talkinghorse.

Try sending him a private message or go to one of the threads in the Fluids & Lubes section where he has replied to questions.

YES! Talkinghorse is a great guy to deal with, but if your in Canada he can forward you to one of our Canadian distributors.

My uncle is gonna grab me a crate of Amsoil 5W40 Euro Formula when he's coming down on his way home from work.
