looking to buy this 2004 SE

so, I'm looking at this 2004 SE 6 speed.. it's got almost 28k miles and still got 10 months under 3 year warranty ... no noticeable problems from test driving.. doesn't have much as far as options go.. but, according to KBB and edmunds the book value is around $23k.. this dealer has it for $18900.. carfax comes up clean.. I'm taking it to a shop in the morning (in about 5-6 hours) to have it checked out, but I figured I'd ask here too... what could be wrong with it? anything I should look for in addition to the shop checking it out?

That would be a steal - if it comes up clean from your mechanic review, jump all over it.

Look on ebay to compare prices. That sounds like a great deal.
I just paid 22 for my 04 se, w/ 20,000 miles and the 100,000ext. warranty.
mine has everything except the nav. stuff. But I do have the 6spd. that is really fun.

FYI. carfax doesn't always have all of everything that has Happened to the vehicle.
Things like hail damage, accidents that don't get reported to the police etc...
It's a nice reference, but I wouldn't rely on it as being completely accurate.

I sent my 1st 04 max back a month ago for undisclosed hail damage....It had been poorly repaired, the estimate's to fix it properly were 5-7grand. It didn't show up on the carfax.

I have my 2nd 04 max now in a month. Actually got a better deal and 20,000 less miles and the ext. warranty.

Sounds like a great deal, if you say it's lacking a lot of options than the price sounds about right. One recommendation, mechanically get an expert to look at it. Take it for a test drive up to about 60mph and check no shimmey, also ask how many of the TSB's have been done to the car since 2004. Good Luck...

Why don't you see if you can get a deal on an extended warranty, just for the peace of mind. If it's a dealer that's offering it, they might be willing to throw it in at a really good price just to move the car...

Well the 6speed has a limited fan base and it loves 91 octane. A few months back the owner may have panicked at the $3.50/gal (or got a 2007). The dealer probably got it for $16,500-$17,500 (using KBB trade-in numbers). The dealer is making $1400-2400 with no warranty cost to them. Try to get an extended warranty added.

10 months and 8K miles bumper to bumper should be plenty to get all TSB's and warranty stuff done in case you uncover some defects. Check the car to be sure the dealer can't find obvious traces of frame welding, fender bolts that have moved, overspray, etc. to avoid giving him an excuse to deny warranty coverage.

if it doesnt have many options(leather etc) that may be too much to pay.

Ritz?

What was the outcome?

(Oh yeah, nice to see you here of all places)!
You still coming down for a visit soon? Maybe we should plan a meet and greet?

you can see it whenever you want

I know Janna and I are trying to come visit you next month some time.. but if we have a meet sometime sooner, of course you can see it then

My brother likes it... although it's still slower than his car and yes, the girl does like it

Slower than the M5 or his Prelude? I am fairly certain that you mean the 5!

Are you going to teach her to drive a standard, or let her stick to her truck instead of your baby?

IMO, Let her beat the peanuts outta the truck!

thanks everyone

Swee, his car is "just" an M3, not the 5.. either way, his is still a bit faster. the prelude is definitely NOT faster although it's not far behind at all. Janna's talking to her parents about buying another car.. I'm trying to convince her to buy a manual so she can learn, cause I'm kinda hesitant to let her learn on my Max but I'm guessing she'll just get another automatic if she buys something else. Oh, and I'm not going to be able to wait to come visit next month... I think my car wants to see you too badly... so we either need to plan a meet or we'll just come down for a day and a half on my days off. either is fine with me (or both... )

His car is pristine! Ritz and Janna (my family) came for a visit these last couple of days. We spent time prepping the whips and then took them for a night on the town. His really cleans up nice. The silver is growing on me. I really liked his color combo also, the silver/black set up! It is indeed a nice car and a heck of steal.

maaaaaaaaayyyyybe you should post in the wtb/fs threads... not in my "I just bought my max and I love it and will NOT trade it you, bonehead" thread.

now that I'm done kicking you for hijacking my thread, welcome to the org. just try and read the rules and post in the appropriate places
