Extended Warranty
#5
Consumer Reports recommends against Extended Warranties -- unless they are given away (less than $300 for an extra 3 years, for example). You have a Nissan, which has a far better repair record than most domestic cars and many foreign cars. I have decided to not waste my money on one and chance that I will come out ahead. It's all a personal choice.

i purchased the 100K mile warranty when i bought my car. It was more than 1500.00... however my whole engine, lights, electronics are covered. even my tires for 3 years... ive had 2 tires replaced for free...
I recommend warranties, especially if you drive hard and far...

I got a silver package covering me up to 75K miles, bought with new car for $860.
My understanding is that there are three levels
Gold - up to 100K
Silver - up to 75K
Bronze - up to 60K
I could be wrong, but yeah I am cover up to 75K/6years myself

I've posted this before, but it probably bears repeating.
I got my extended warranty right after I got my new max. I DIDN'T get it at the dealership where I bought the car -- you don't need to do that. After I got my car, I called all the local Nissan Dealerships in a tri-county area. I spoke with the warranty person and told them I wanted a warranty and I was going to call all the Nissan dealerships in the area and get a quote. I told each of them that if their quote was the lowest, they would be hearing back from me by the end of the day. I got quotes ALL over the place. I ended up with $700 (one of my quotes was for about $1500). I called back the $700 quote dealership and they got my business. SO, the moral of the story is SHOP AROUND!!

What's your coverage for $700.?

The gold and silver levels aren't based on mileage, they are based up on what is covered. I got the gold coverage -- 6 years/75,000 miles. You can get any level of coverage (gold, silver/etc) in any sort of years/mileage combination. I'll have to dig up my receipt, but I think I was right under $700, actually. And, my estimates were ALL over the place!! Shopping around paid off for me, and I really wanted the peace of mind of an extended warranty.
Here you can see the different offerings and what they cover. Then, you can go in knowing what you want and just make them give you a quote. Keep shopping and go with the lowest.

I have never gone wrong with an extended warranty. They have always paid for themselves. There is always something that will go wrong and it will cost as much as the warranty, plus the piece of mind is worthit too.
If you dont' plan on keeping the car that long or that many miles it isn't worth it.
They are hoping that you don't hold ontothe car that long. Then they don't have to pay out any claims on your warranty. Most people don't keep the car as long as they think that they will.

I have the extended warranty as well. I beleive im covered upto 100,000kms as well, i also got that rust protection, paint and carpets, underbody coating.
I didnt know my tires are covered, so that means if im not happy with my tires, i just go to them and tell them?? Well howcome everytime your there with a problem, they never fix it or replace stuff? They always say oh theres nothing wrong, or your tires dont look worn out etc.
Example is ive got a rattling on my dash i think, im not sure, and whenever i take it to the dealer and they drive it, they say its not there. Im really tired of having to hear **** like that because one day im gonna loose my mind and tell em, when i was about to buy the car you guys were all happy, after i bought it, you dont wanna have to do anything wit me??

I know whatcha mean, they think we are stupid for complaining about rattle noises but the truth of the matter is that we have all paid 25k, 30k, 35k, or whatever for the car and we expect quality. Rattle noises make the car seem like crap and not worth the price we paid. I mean, I now eventually as it gets older, things will get loose and rattle but still, many of us have low miles and are hearing all kinds of things rattling

Very good idea. However I would prefer the dealership to add the warranty to my car payment. I then would spend that 700.00 on a DVD player for my car...
