My car sometimes stalls (seems to idle very low when this happens, before it cuts off) on me but cranks right back up. It doesnt happen all the time, but I cant seem to figure out why? (no codes are picked up). Had the PCV valve changed last week during regular maintenace. Any suggestions appreciated. it has 50.000 miles 2004 max se, I cant seam to go back in this forum to fine other simular posts .

I've been noticing that my car is starting to idle a bit rougher now too, but it hasn't died at all. I've got nearly 40K miles. Overall though, this engine is very smooth - it's even more smooth than a new Ford 500 I drove several months ago, and that was brand new!

But to answer your question, I'm not sure what it could be. Sorry.

The two times I had a rough idle, both times turned out to be fried spark plugs. Spirited driving may have been a factor...

First time was about 18K miles, second time was 26K (lots of mods). I will need to research better spark plugs to support my driving and racing track style...

Speaking about changing plugs.......how difficult is it to do? Can you access all of them with ease or do you have to go through a maze for the 3 in the back?

Plugs= yes, wires= no we have coil packs not wires and we are distributorless too

I did repalace all the spark plugs less than a month , Whats wierd is the dealer did not mension anything , because i brought it in for the recalls , subframe , seat , window . no codes except Temp sensor which is payed for which I will install on Monday instead of paying 175.$$ for labor . I did check for other posts for simular problems ,some TSB stated bad grounds .Today I will check the two front grounding eyelets for problems . Im just getting fearfull of it dieing at the time

I have a rough idle problem with my 04 maxima. Usually in the mornings.

I have this problem sometimes too. Not necessarily in the mornings, but usually, the 1st time I start my car on a given day. It also has nothing to do with the temperature outside.

For some reason the other day,my car started shaking real bad while idling and felt like it was about to die, the check engine light also immediately came on. i had gotten an oil change two days before this so I thought ide just check oil level even though I didnt think this had anything to do with the shaking. The oil was very low (damn Midas idiots cant even fill up oil properly) so I poured a quart of oil in. I then started the car up and within 30 seconds, the shaking faded away but my check engine light is still on. The problem hasnt come back yet and I dont know if the oil is really what made it go away or if it went away on its own just to come back later. Anyways, just thought ide share my experience. Check your oil, let me know if this works for you too.

This is the reason I do all of my own oil changes -- the quick lube places don't hire the brightest people and the people they do hire don't care. You do care about your own car and will do the job properly -- so I do my own.

I dont know if this helps, but you could get a grouding kit. In vancouver, there is a place that sells Stillen grounding kits for maxima 04 onwards. I have no clue if the grounding kit is necessary, but many people have told me that the stereo, windows and xenon lights work better when they have installed this.

By the way im new here, so do educate me, if im wrong. I personally was looking to add things to my 05 maxima such as UDP and a grounding kit. Reasons were i wanted to keep the car stock as much as possible, but at the same time add stuff to increase HP. The grounding kit just sounded great.

On another note Silver Max 04, i think Mr.Lube does a pretty good job, so far ive given it only to Nissan and i use Mobil 1 synthetic. But your right, if i knew how to do it on my own or had the time, that would be the way to go.

My 04 started doing that allot. Came to a point after the 7th or 8th time the car wouldnt start at all. Besides getting the battery changed, the dealer cleaned out the fuel injection system and throttle body...it was all gummed up for some reason. After that, the car started and worked like a charm! Never had a stall again! Anyway, just traded in my 04 for the 07..I am so stoked about it!!! I never ever thought I'd get another Maxima after my 04 experiences...but, I dunno something about these cars...hmmmm.

Are any of you guys running aftermarket air filters. In my previouse Mustang life, I know the oil in these filters have been know to pass through and mess up the MAF causing poor idle and stalling. Simple electronics cleaner for a couple bucks will easily fix this problem.

Nope. I didn't have any after market air filters on my 04 when I had it. The stalling problem started around 45K to 50K miles. The car would just stall especially after I just filled up at the gas station. I thought it was the fuel pump issue when the temparature was cold outside. Had the dealer check and the fuel pressure was just fine. Let it go for a while until the stalling became more frequent at low idle, etc. Then the car finally stalled and wouldnt restart (thank goodness it happened right in front of the house!). Called triple A and the guy recharged my battery and it started again. Brought the car in to the local Sears to buy a new battery. The tech checked and did a full diagnostic on the existing battery and told me there was absolutely nothing wrong with the battery. The following week I broke in and brought the car to the Nissan Dealer (which I like to avoid whenever possible). They did a diagnostics and said I needed a new battery and that the fuel injectors and throttle body needed cleaning since they were gummed up (not sure why as I kept up with all maintenance and changed filters frequently, etc). After the cleaning the car never stalled again...ran it another 22K miles without a hitch and then traded it in for the 07. Hope this helps...
