Mixed driving, 93 octane, 24.4mpg.

I have a 2006 Maxima SE (5 spd auto), also during break-in (I have ~700 miles on it, I only use Shell V-Power 91). I do exclusively city driving and I am around 20-21 mpg. Try resetting your mileage readout and keep monitoring after that...When I bought mine, I had a terrible number like yours. I guess the dealerships need to run the engines in the parking lots to keep the batteries alive...this contributing to the low numbers.

04 SL 5 spd auto, 1,367 miles avg 23.41 mix 50/50 hwy @75 - 80 and city (I do the math and that is using 87oct) but the readout puts me alittle lower. (because when you mash the gas it kills your readout)

this is like the 4th gas mileage thread ive posted on in 2 months...i reset mine from getting 13.6 mpg, within the past 2 days im averaging about 18.2

they go by the readout and never reset it.
they do not read other threads about their same topic.
they repost the same topic over and over.
they do not read others' replies on how to solve their problem.
they don't even know what a manual is meant for and that it is located in their glovebox.

I will have had my car for exactly 3 years in august and my mileage has been 22.5-24.2 the whole time never less never more.

I started the week out on this tank of gas with the AC running each day, 30.2 MPG on a street filled with lights but most of the time I was steady going with a few stops for 30 miles. On the way back I dropped down to 27.4 in rush hour traffic. Now its three days later and I am down to 25.2 after two hundred miles. My average is about 24 MPG with each tank of gas.

I do both. Every time I fill up I write down the following information:

From the computer (Fuel Econ):
- The average MPG since the last fill up.
(reset by holding this button in).

From the computer (Trip):
- The average speed (mph) since the last fill up.
- The distance since the last fill up.
(reset using the Trip Reset button).

I don't do the math on every fill-up, but every so often I do the math to see how well the computer is doing. Mine is actually quite accurate (given the fact that I probably don't fill the tank to the same point every time I fill-up).

I find that when the average speed is in the 50-60 mph range, I get my best fuel economy.

I get 17-18 mostly city and I drive like a b--ch. There's gotta be something wrong with it.

I get 34mpg on freeways (keep it at 60-65mph), and 22mpg on local. I do 50/50 fwy/local and get about 25mpg on average.

I get between 24 and 25 with my 2005 SL (mixed city and hwy driving). The mileage is the same whether I use 87 or 93 octane.

I'm not surprised. I told by reliable sources that it takes a VQ engine 2 or more tanks of a different octane for the engine controls to completely recognize the difference and adjust fully for it.

I now burn only regular in my Max -- because I do not race her. If I did, I would switch to premium at least 2 tanks before I did the racing.

I drive from Frisco to Dallas (about 24 miles of city with a lot of bumper to bumper) and I get 23+ with the AC on.

On the highway, if I keep it at a decent speed I get over 30.

This is a 6 speed with an aftermarket intake and underdrive pulleys running 93 octane.

honestly I was getting 13.4 mpg on average driving like I am allways at the track stop light to stop light..... after I installed my CAI I have been getting 18-19 mpg on average..... haven't done any serious highway driving to see the difference..... but I highly recommend a CAI in you drive like I do.... might not really make sense but it's true.....

i tried 104 octane booster yesterday after filling up. today on the way to my dads crib about 25 miles from me, i kept checking mpg and it was showing (best) 33mpg and (worst)28 mpg. prior to this i was showing between 14-16 mpg. any thoughts on this?

I dont know what causes this but my suggestion based off what I have experienced with gas mileage, try different gas stations until you find one that you get better gas mileage than the others. I have tried several in my area and a no name brand works the best out of them all (all 93 octane). This is my second 06 this year and the first was a manual. I got about 24 MPG mixed driving. I didnt have it long enough to take it out on the road for a long distance trip but I am sure it would have gotten 30 on the highway. If you do a lot of city driving with the AC running and you have a heavy foot (like I do), you will get 14-16 MPG no matter how fuel efficient your car is.
