2006 Maxima packages

I finally have my insurance claim settled from when I wrecked my Maxima on April 22, so now I am looking for a new car.

My late-Maxima was an '05 SE with the Premium Audio Pkg., Power roof, spoiler, etc. I bought it new in January as a holdover from the previous model year.

Now that it's nearly mid-way through 2006, I will likely have to buy a '06 model.

One of the cool new features is that the '06 Maximas come with a Bluetooth option.

Does anyone here have a '06 with Bluetooth? If so, do you find it a worthwhile option? Please lend me your thoughts on this.

I am currently looking at two cars:

1) 2006 Onyx Maxima SE
-Driver Preferred Package, Sensory Package, Charcoal Leather, Bluetooth, 18 in chome wheels, Premium audio, rear spoiler, splash guards.

2) 2006 Onyx Maxima SE
-Premium audio package, charcoal cloth seats, rear spoiler, power roof, splash guards.

Option 2 is obviously less expensive than option one, but probably only by $2,000 after all negotiations. The only thing I really care about is the power roof, spoiler, and Bose and color. The rest is just nice to have.

Any thoughts here on the differences or what one of you would buy?

If you can go with the elite package SE, I have that and i think it makes the maxima a whole new beast, yes i know you loose seating for 1 passanger, but i think its better to have 4 really happy passangers than 5 "unhappy"(they are still riding in a maxima so is not bad at all anyways) ones.
i have a friend with the BT option, and it sound really clear and lookslike people have no problem hearing back,

Spoiler can be had for $130US already painted to match on Ebay. Don't let that be an issue for you. Its a peel and stick application.

Remember that with the Elite you also lose the folding seats. I didn't think this would be a big deal and was actively looking for an Elite one but couldn't find it. Nowadays I'm glad I didn't do it, because I've put the seats down several times to carry stuff.

I guess it depends on whether you have a truck/SUV (if you need to carry ****) or if you don't mind putting stuff on the seats. I know whenever I need to transport something, I'll put the seats down and put whatever it is on top so it doesn't mess with the leather.

I suggest DPP. Elite is nice, but not really practical.

I had to have all the bells and whistles. if you don't, look into how much a few of the options that you may want would cost aftermarket. I wouldn't mind some custom leather. But I enjoy every feature I got in the DPP.

Okay so I am looking around and am about to make a decision. Do I buy Bluetooth with only Skyview roof; or do I buy an opening sunroof but no bluetooth?

Sorry guys, I can't wait for '07s to come out....I need a car now.

I can't help with your request for info on the bluetooth. I'm not 'up' on that. I do recall a few posters here who were disappointed with some facet of how Nissan does the bluetooth, but don't remember the details.

More reasons for not trying to wait for the '07s are the actual availability date is sort of fuzzy, there will be few to choose from early on, and, as the facia (front appearance) has changed, there will be few discounts for the first few months.

Like others here, I am a BIG fan of the Driver's Preferred Package. For the SE, that includes a ton of goodies - too many to list here. Even small things like the heated steering wheel have proven to be something I use almost every day from November to April.

If the Maxima with DPP had a power roof, the answer would be easy. But it doesn't, so you have a very tough choice to make.

One possible route would be to open your selections to include cars at other dealers. If you find exactly the car you want at another fairly close dealer, your dealer can obtain that car from that dealer. I have done that in the past. You can see exactly what cars in what colors with what equipment are sitting at any dealer via use of the nissanusa site.

If your dealer drags his feet on moving the car from another dealer, you might consider negotiating by phone or email directly with internet manager of the dealer who has the exact car you want. I bought my last two Maximas through the internet manager of my dealership.

Unless you don't plan to keep your new Maxima very long, you might as well get exactly what you want.

I have the bluetooth and elite package. I like both, the bluetooth works great.

Get the opening sunroof.

I just bought my SE about a month ago. I like the bluetooth. I didnt want it at all but I wanted a 6-speed and the bluetooth system is married to the 6-speeds so I had no choice. Well I love it now that I actually use it. If you're on the phone alot then its def the best option for you.

option 1, besides the chrome wheeles, everything you mentioned is part of the driver perfered package. There not seperate options. and thats the exact same way my maxima is setup, and i love it. except i have an 05 so minus the bluetooth.

I think you should look for a DPP, in which i have and like others have pointed out it has a lot of goodies that really make the car fun and worth it. Also keep in mind the DPP has a good resale value and im sure you will enjoy it. But if i were you i may wait a few more months and to see what the 07 maxima is going to be like, but i would understand if you need a car right away. Good Luck.

If it was me, I would beg, borrow or steal a beater for a few months then get a 2007. Those new seats alone would be worth it.

sorry for the offtopic, but how do you find that exactly? i may be interested in putting it on my SL. either the original or the G35's...

to the OP, i would go for the DPP, the practicality of 5 seating beats having two really comfy rear seats...at least IMO. that's why i stuck to the 5 seats

Not only that, but with the 5 seat config the back seat folds down so you can haul some bigger items in the trunk. Witht the elite package, I don't think that you can do that.

RE: Bluetooth. I have a 2006 maxima SL and my HP6515 smartphone is not compatabile with the bluetooth system. So go to Nissan web site and check your phone for compatability.

As others have stated...definitely get the DPP. The heat steering wheel was the best thing along with the heated seats during the cold mornings this past winter. The sunroof is a personal choice, I love them but you may not.

Check out other dealers before just settling on your one. The internet is a great resource too. A lot of dealerships are very willing to work with you. Check out carmax's website, if you have one local. I found a comparable car at carmax and the dealership I went with beat their price (brand new). We have a nissan carmax here in MD....so....good luck.

We Bought A New Maxima

Okay, so here it is, the new Maxima. We finally replaced the totaled '05.

We bought our new 2006 SE yesterday. I decided to go with the full meal deal...sort of. I got DPP, Sensory, Bluetooth, Power roof, leather, the spoiler and it came with the chrome wheels. I wasn't sure I want those, but it was the only option on the lot. I am debating on selling those before they are too used and buying some 20s on Toyos.

My apologies for the poor photo. I didn't have a real camera with me, only my phone. I just installed my SE-R pedals tonight, too and I will post pics of that on the 'SE-R pedals thread' soon.

And like all 'strictly stock' Maximas, it needs to be lowered big time....

Thanks for your advice everyone, it was very helpful!

cloth vs leather

Having had leather in just one of my vehicles, I would go for cloth every time over leather - especially the cheap leather that was in my 95 Max...
