SE or SL and age

I'm 55, and have an SE.
Back in the '80s, I preferred the options that came with the (then) GXE, like the buttons on the doors for keyless entry. I had that on the '86 and '89 Max's that I owned.
I kept that '89 up until 2000 when I bought the 5th Gen Max and went for the SE. Why the switch? Well, for one thing, keyless entry was now accomplished through the remote/fob on all models, so that was a non-factor now. And for the outer styling, the SE had the highboy brake light on the spoiler rather than occupying space on the rear deck.
Sounds stupid, but that used to bother me on the '89 Max. I'd try to clean that rear window inside and could never get behind that stupid cyclops. As a result there was always a smear around it.
So when I got the '00 Max, and then the '02 Max, and now the '07 Max, my choice of SE has more to do with that than anything else. (And I hate leather upholstery.)

SL, 31 -- wanted the SE, but the only colour they had left in the '06 was pewter (no offence to pewter owners). The day I made the purchaser, a smoke SL came in, so I jumped. I wish I had the 18" rims, but I like that my ride is a bit different than the other max' on the road and I like the SL's comfort features.

27 --> 2005 SL on 20's. Im new here. Cant wait to hook it up some more so I can show some pics off. I still dont quite no the difference between the SL and the SE. Only differences I have noticed are the rims and the price. Other than that the options are available for the SE right?

Other than these differences, an SE could always be optioned with anything that was either standard or optional on an SL (or GLE).
Speaking strictly of the stock Max, I personally have never remotely considered an SL/GLE because those differences were important to me. The wood trim, extra chrome, soft suspension and smaller wheels/tires always made them feel like they were built for my father, not me. Now, at 50, I still feel that way. However, the SE has lost much of what has traditionally made it different than the SL/GLE, which disappoints me greatly. It's still a NICE car, as is the SL, but it's no longer a UNIQUE car.
