New Kenwood P-NAV815 Install (With Pics)

Just purchased a Kenwood P-NAV815 DVD Navigation system for my 04 Max. If all goes well with shipping for the system and the dash kit, should have the install done on Monday.

Will PROMISE to post pics once the install is done. Having the install done by the same people who did JSMITHSOLE's setup.

HI All,

Decided to join up and say hello for the land down under ... Love me new Maxima , bit different to the ones in the US but still a fantastic motor car ..

Notice a lot of the parts in the US version are similar to the Australian/ Asian version..

Just wondering if anybody knows where you can source a colour replacement screen for the yellow led display ?

So, back to me, cause this thread is all about me :attention

hahah

Anyway, received the HU and the dash kit today. Called the installer and moved the install date up to Saturday morning, so by 1pm or 2pm I should be good to go. Not sure if I mentioned it, but also going to follow in your shoes jsmithsole and get the back up camera.

I am thinking of maybe getting the camera mounted at the top center of the rear window though for a much broader view, not to thrilled about just having it at the bumper.

Any thoughts on that?

Sounds like a good idea. The view up top is a lot more interesting (and more natural). I considered a camera just for the cool-factor, and let's face it, if my grandma doesn't need one for backing up, neither should I. You might want to see how the lens reacts to direct sunlight while behind a glass though. It could wash out the picture. Maybe you could rig a custom lens hood if it's a real problem. I've always wondered about the externally mounted cams.... What happens when it rains? Can you even see through them?

By the way I bought a Kenwood too, P-NAV7015 ((pic here) . The separate, dedicated nav disc drive is the ONLY way to go. I highly recommend using the British chick's voice.... I call her "Elizabeth Hurley".

Yea, I think it is just a "cool" thing to do also. As for the voice, I will definitely check her out. I think there are about 50 to choose from on these units.

I am really looking forward to it.. about 24 hours to go until I pick up the car!!

You should look into a plate cam. It's a backup camera that's been mounted on a frame for your liscience plate. I'll see if I can post a pic....I just did one on a Cadillac SRX the other day. It came out pretty nice!

Install is done!!

Well, the install is done and they did a great job. Kinda dark when I got home to my camera, so I will take pics tomorrow and post them. Ended up getting a camera installed and had them place it right next to the 3rd brake light on the rear deck. Worked out just perfectly.

Until tomorrow.. and yes I know.......

The HK Traffic Pro I have installed in my F150 has multiple voice options as well. I keep it on the british female setting also. The stock nav unit in the maxima is lacking in that department.

and 1 more...

Here is one with the HU unit in closed mode. There is a feature you can turn on to have it automatically open close when you turn on / off the engine.

Nightline,

Looks very nice, glad to have been their maxima gineau pig. Hope you are stoked on their work, they've been good to me...
It looks like the camera needs to be adjusted up a bit, too much trunk in the shot?
Congrats!

Yea, I didn't want it on the bumper for a couple of reasons, one being mean little kids that might want to rip something off the car. When you really think about, its just one of those things "to have", its a toy, something fun to do.

I do have to say that after having it there, it has caused a couple of issues, and I am thinking of having it relocated. For one, if I am playing music with a lot off bass, that rear deck moves around, and the camera sometimes loosens and turns a bit. If this continues, I will have to have it moved elsewhere.

Interesting Revelation

Apparently this HU plays MP3 files on DVD+R also. They don't advertise that or say anything in the manual about it. It reads them just fine just like it does for the CD-r's.
