??? for Unorthodox Pulley Owners

Hey guys - I was wondering if any of you have head any weird noises since you installed your U/O pulley? I definitely get a different sound when running the A/C and sometimes without the A/C running. Kind of a "wheeeeeee" sound. Not horrible, but a little irritating. I figured it has to be the U/O pulley since it is connected to the A/C and it never made that sound before. Still love the response from the pulley but any help would be appreciated. Was going to bring it back into the dealer since they installed it and forgot to grease it or something. Thanks!

I have had my UDP on for almost a year and no noises yet. It does not require any grease, but whoever installed it should have lightly oiled the sealing surface on the collar.

The noise could still be coming from your A/C. It will run at anytime, even when its cold out, to help remove moisture in the air.

Actually, the belts may too loose. I just remembered, when I first the pulley on, one of the belts was an inch too big and there was not enuff adjustment on the idler pulley to take up the slack. The belt would squeal until it warmed up a little bit. I went to the next belt size down and that cured the problem.

There is a fine line on belt tension. Too loose and the belt will squeal and wear prematurely. Too tight and you could run the risk of damaging the bearings in the power steering pump or water pump. Might be something to check.

I had the noise in my eclipse for a little over a year after installing a udp. Nothing ever went wrong, but the noise was always there. Some people thought that I had some type of forced induction, lol. I guess it never bothered me too much with the intake/exhaust noise overpowering the slight whine. Good luck to your fix!

Tek, I used a K060405 in place of the K060408 for the alternator and A/C belt.

Don't have the UDP on my 04 but I had it on my 95. I had similiar noise. Had my mechanic look at the car. He said its the belts and adj them. Month later noise back. He said that he does not like Gates Belts. He replaced them with Bando. Noise gone and never came back.

Thinking about it I had lots of belt noise on my 280zx that I had in college. I replaced the Gates belts with OE Nissan and noise gone.

BTW EO Nissan belts = Bando

Don't get me wrong guys - I dont regret the U/O pulley at all. In fact one person said they thought I had a turbo in it LOL Its mostly when I first start the car at idle speeds. Gonna get it checked out next time at the dealer just to be safe. Car still makes me smile every time I floor it
