Anyone put in a brighter console light?

The little one between the map lights that shines down on the center stack/console area?

The existing setup seems pretty pointless to me. It is so dim that it doesnt even remotely illuminate anything below it. I'm wondering if there is a brighter bulb that can be used there. One bright enough to actually get some faint illumination down below without being to bright like a normal light.

From Slyvania's website:

these are the model number of the bulbs

Glove box
158

Map light
DE3021

Dome light
DE3175

Step/Courtesy light
194
194

Trunk/Cargo area
158

I'm sure we can find compainies that make brighter bulbs for these. I think a few people here have changed the interior

Does anyone think that an LED would work in this instance?

bulb replacement

I have the burnt orange interior and I replaced the bulb with an amber one and drilled the hole out larger. The light now shines down orange on the console and looks awesome.

I may be wrong, but i realy believe that the light that shines through the small slot between the maplights is merely there to serve as a reference point when the car is dark to reach the overhead console area's center switch to turn on the interior lights

You're absolutely correct. This light is a point of reference only. It acts as a visual guide to the various overhead switches when it's dark outside. That's why it's on whenever the exterior lights are on.

Also, if you don't like it, you can switch it off with the overhead console's 3-way light switch.

Hey here I got another trivial question, what do you do to get at the lights in the overhead console, unscrew the bolt on the ceiling when you open the sunglass holder?
