Window Tint

Window Tint
What tint % do you have on your Max? I'm looking at a 28% tint and was wondering if there are any problems seeing at night with the darkness. I think I've read about a few here having even lower tint than this. Just wondering if you would go that dark again. Don't want to make any expensive mistakes.

Anyone with tint have NAV and are there any issues relating to tinting and keeping your navigation system accurate?? And what about the auto-dimming rear view mirror?? Any issues there?? Just curious...thanks for the comments.

As far as navigation interference, I have heard about the metalized films causing problems. I found this website that is very helpful at answering any questions you might have. tintdude.com They even talk about the tint interference with the navi specifically.

This site you can put the tint on a car and see what it looks like, it also tells you the states that it is legal in.

I have limo tint (5%)....paid $150 for the back and rear door/windows.

35% on sides, 20% rear. I guess it depends on which state you are in to determine what's legal and what's not. In Texas, the two driver windows cannot be any lower than 35%, but all the rest are fair game. Kind of sucks because I would go 20% all around if I could.
04SeElite, I have tint and nav and no problems that I have noticed. It does seem, though, that the auto-dim rearview mirror does not work as well with the tint.

Well I'm going in an hour to get mine done. I live in FL and the law limit is is 28% on the front doors, 15% on the rear doors, and 6% in the back.
I'm thinking I can talk the guy (who just called to ask if I could come in early) into doing 22% all around. That's what I am shooting for.
I'll be posting new pics on my cardomain site in a few days, and I'm glad to hear I don't have to worry about the auto-dimming mirror. Looks like the majority don't have problems with it.

Well I'm back to say that I got the 22% all around. It is the straight black stuff and it looks very nice.
Although the guy did it without question, I could have had him do it darker, but he recommended his lightest (22%) since the car has a dark interior. I should have thought more carefully, as now I wish it were darker. Hard to believe that is blocking 78% of the visible light, it doesn't seem that dark.
I would recommend anyone doing tint to consider a reflective type, that even if it's not really dark, makes it hard to see in the car. I've seen this style tint that's not silver in appearance, it's like a black oil sort of reflectivity. I'm seriously considering getting the tint fine-tuned as I'll have this car for a while and I want it to be perfect....but at $160 I'm not quite ready to abandon what is already done.
Don't get me wrong, it looks tight with tint, waaaay better, but I am picky hehe - just my 2 cents for anyone getting tint so they can consider all their options.
peace

I had the 28% put on Wednesday. It looks great and you all were right, not hard to see at night at all. It's not as dark as I thought it would be. As soon as I get the Max cleaned up I'll post some pics. We've had lots of rain here and it's been hard trying to keep it clean.

Not sure on the exact %, but I'd say 35% on the sides and 20% on the rear window. I didn't have them cut out the brake lights. The tint is illegal here in CT anyhow unless you get like 50%. I have no problems seeing out and with the black interior the car looks much darker than it really is. Friends have commented on how dark the tint looks on the outside, but have zero visibility problems on the inside. In areas where I have a good chance of being hassled by the police I open up the skyview and let some light in to make the car seem much more brighter inside. No problems yet. *fingers crossed*
