Price for new Max

Im looking at a silver SE with DPP, sunroof, floormats, splash guards for 28,900 (msrp 32320, invoice 29354). Can i go any lower or should i settle for this? When are the 05s coming out, will the prices be lower then?

maxpol - In my opinion, $454 below invoice is a very fair price. You might beat that by a tad at some dealers, especially on cars with undesirable options that have been on the lot awhile. But a few dealers won't even come as far below invoice as you already are.

Considering you are getting one of the most popular colors with perhaps the most popular options list, I feel the price you have been quoted is very good.

As for the '05s, since the '04s have been out over 14 months, I would bet the first '05s would be trickling into the dealers in July; August at the latest. I have not heard of any big changes for the '05s, and Nissan normally does not make big changes after the first year of a new generation. If no big changes, the price won't drop a lot on the '04s. At any rate, the price cuts wouldn't be really deep until the supply of '05s is plentiful, which may not be until October or so.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

pecora55 - considering the mixed (at best) reception of the '04 grille, you may be right. If the grille is not changed on the '05, it definitely will be on the '06. If the lights are not changed on the '05s, they certainly will be on the '06.

But you are right that the grille would be a great place for Nissan to improve the Maxima with minimum testing or technological work or assembly line changes.

I believe that the 05 Max is going to the "normal" release schedule. So plan on seeing in Sept. Especially since Nissan recently refreshed the colors. If the 05 was right around the corner they would have waited for the new year to get new colors....yes?

95Max - could be. I was basing the earlier release on the early cutoff for ordering '04s. Nissan stopped taking special orders for the '04 over a month ago. I took that to mean they would not be building '04s in June.

Won't be too long until we know for sure.

An '04 Maxima with VIN # over 914500 arrived at my dealer yesterday, so the 100,000 Nissan hoped for with the '04 has been easily surpassed (first '04 Maxima made was VIN #800000). We may reach 120 to 130K before ending '04 production.

There were many 'naysayers' a year ago, but every day, I see more smiling faces on drivers of '04 Maximas.
