Is the gas pedal cable connected, or fly by wire?

Some of the newer engines have a gas pedal which senses foot pressure, and the computer then controls throttle response.
In military lingo, this is known as "fly by wire". No more throttle
cable. Whats up with the '04 engine? Am I pushing on a cable,
or is my foot talking to the computer?

As is the brakes... or so it seems. I haven't actually looked, (something I've been meaning to do) but it sure feels like it.

I believe it's fly by wire. No more cable. That's why sometimes you get that ever-so-slight delay in response when stomping on it... I do remember back in the day (on my 2nd gen '87) you could throttle up the engine directly from the engine compartment by tugging on this cable/pulley assembly that was right on top of the motor. Don't think that exists anymore...@ least I can't find anything like that on the current VQ35...

All new nissans have this "electronic Controlled TB" My fathers 03 LE Pathfinder has this. The best way to check is by looking at your intake manifold. If you dont see any cables leading to the TB then its Electonically controlled. And yes the 04 maxima has this. No more cable.

On the last page of the '04 brochure under Engine Specifications it says "Electronic drive-by-wire throttle".

Brakeing is not allowed to be by wire as per the HTSA. At least not totally, if they do by wire then the brake still has to be manually connected as a back up... so IDK of any make, not even BMW, etc. that have brake by wire... the same for the steering. There has to be a mechanical connection.

I'm wondering if anyone else is noticing the same thing:

So, everytime when i press on the gas pedal, the engine revs with a slight delay. Is that normal for the 6th gen's, since they have the "Electronic drive-by-wire throttle"...?
My 5th gen has a cable and the throttle response is waaaaaaaaaay better
My Max is 04" 6M/T
Thanks!

OK. Thanks for the tip! Just few more questions, if you don't mind :

1. what you mean with the throttle relearn procedure? Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning or Idle Air Volume Learning?

2. Are these procedures the same for A33b and A34? I'm asking because there are how-to's in the 5th gen stickies w/o using a Consult...

3. Should i do the ECU Reset Procedure and the Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning before that or that's worthless?

It's in the A34 stickys, but yes they're the same.

You must perform those for it to work. Also make sure the car is @ operating temperature.

Throttle is Electronic braking is done traditionally through pressurizing the hydraulic fluid in resevoir
