Now be nice, 42unate.

Like you, I prefer the power sunroof, and will always want one.

But the skyview is not 'useless' for many drivers. The skyview was, at the time, a new and innovative thing that many felt was eye-catching and interesting. It also gave back seat passengers another window to look out of; a window that was especially fun to use when driving in the downtown parts of big cities with lots of skyscrapers. And it cost about a thousand bucks LESS than the power sunroof. And money speaks.

Yes, the skyview might be 'useless' to a few drivers. But far more would categorize it in a more favorable light, even if they prefer the power sunroof on their Maxima.

100% agree. Back before I got my '04, I thought it did open. Found out that it didn't, and without hesitation, I went right toward the Sunroof option.

I like the concept of the Skyview, but c'mon, it's gotta open. IMHO, at least.

BFB - The power sunroof on the 6th gen is not supposed to be leakproof; water coming in around it is simply gathered and carried away.

Specifically, water coming in around the 6th gen power sunroof is carried by a system of channels around the sides of the sunroof opening and delivered to two openings in each of the front corners near the top corners of the windshield. Open your sunroof all the way on a sunny day and look inside and you can see the drain holes.

If water leaks into the cabin from the power sunroof (will drip from upper part of 'A' pillar or from sunglasses compartment, etc), one or both of the tubes that carry the water from those holes in the corners in front of the sunroof to the ground (just behind the front tires) has been crimped or otherwise blocked. That crimp is usually about level with the bottom of the windshield, and can be fixed by the dealer in less than an hour. There is a complete process for checking this out up in the stickies on this board.

Thanks for the info, but my post was meant more in sarcasm.

But now I know that "if" I see drips by the sunglass compt. or by the A pillar, I'll know the culprit.

sunroof......the skyview is just a big heavy piece of glass that wont open. i'm a big fan of opening a sunroof... (nissan should of made the skyview open like a normal inbuilt sunroof, but to the right or left of course...that would of been pretty sweet.) anyway, just tryin to get my 15 replies so i can post topics...me being a newbie and all..

Skyview... I feel it's a good compromise for those that don't care for a sunroof (one less thing to breakdown) and those that want to have a view of the stars at night. Plus it's what came with my preowned Max. So I had no choice .

sky roof is one of a kind (or it was). Most people love it, some think its retarded. I personally think its neat, but a functioning sunroof would be better imo.

Love the sunroof, but now have a problem

Help please!

My wife has an 06 SE all black, has been a great car. Yesterday, however, she was stranded when the car wouldn't start after leaving a store. I showed up, Dudley-Do-Right style figuring it was just a dead battery. Opened the hood to find the positive terminal of the battery surrounded by a giant mass of corrosion. Brushed it all off and discovered it had completely corroded away the multi-terminal post and the band around the positive terminal! The casing of the battery had cracked directly below the terminal, leading to a significant leakage of battery acid.... Tried to rig it with a new battery and a short jumper cable, without success and called a wrecker. Got the car back today and all is good again, with the exception of the fact that the sunroof will not slide back, will not open. It will open into the vent position only. Have checked all fuses, although there doesn't appear to be one labeled as sunroof. Everything else appears to work. Checked online and researched the problem, but the "resetting" by holding the slide switch doesn't appear to do anything.

Any experts have an opinion? I researched on this board and couldn't find a comparable problem, so have at me if this has been gone over before, but thanks for any help.

Sunroof (moonroof) all the way! For a hot second I wanted a skyview, that is, until I found out it didn't open!! What a tease IMO!

beaker - This is normal. Whenever the battery has been disconnected, the sunroof has to be reset. I don't recall the exact procedure. The writeup is somewhere among the stickies. This has been discussed here many times, so someone here should give us the exact procedure within the next day or so. I think it is also in the Owner's Manual. I seem to remember it begins with holding the 'tilt up' switch for 5 seconds or something like that.

Thanks!-

I went out and pushed a bunch of buttons and got it working. No science, just trial and error. I think pressing the button that tilts the sunroof repeatedly allowed it to open in small steps, and then operated normally.

Skyview is a nice alternative that nissan made for people who didn't want the sunroof option. I have the skyview, and people who sit in the rear seats love it.

Scr3w the backseat passengers... Sunroof open so I can hear the wind blow!
Bonus... it makes it easier and less painful for the aliens to pull you out of your car with the "Laser Beams"
