there's a diagram printed on the fuse compartment cover. I believe it's a 15A.

Saint Lighter

Yeah it is 15 Amps. Located (on 98) 3down empty 2nd one is the 15 Amps cig. lighter fuse. I know because I had to replace is 4 times. I bought a lighter from Autozone or Strauss (dont remeber) and tested it out.. And my fuse dyed over and over.. I dunno must have been made by the Devil!!!

BTW, I am selling this lighter for best price offered. It's got a dice as a 'head'?

Will post picture later...

I have the same problem. 1998 Maxima SE. Something isn't right. Every time when I push the cigarette lighter in the fuse burns. Then I'd replace the fuse and can use my GPS unit or any other devices no problem. When I use cig lighter it burns the fuse right away. Any ideas?

2 year bump...

Is yours not working? Have you tried a different element?

You can't bump a 2 year old thread then not give any details on your problem...

yeah i think mine is messed up too. i have to wire up a switch and it says. ground/load/power. i tapped(didnt cut just removed insulation and soldered) into the orange/black wire. put the ground to a bolt under the dash near the hood release. i didnt hook up the load but the switch should light up as it is right? maybe i did it wrong but where is another place i can get 12v ignition from if the cig lighter doesnt work... thanks

Why didn't you just grab B+ and Gnd from the same place (cig lighter harness)?

Did you do any testing? Check for power at the lighter itself, check the fuse, anything?

Or do you think it's not getting power based on a switch that may or may not work? Are you sure you wired up the switch correctly?

Do you want ignition switched B+, or accessory? The cig lighter is ACC, not IGN. There are a thousand places in the car you could get it from, just need to break out a multimeter.

They did indeed come with the cig lighter element (at the very least as an option), and it's also an A32 part number.

It's not just for using the actual cig lighter, the socket has a lot of other uses as well, all of which are useless if it doesn't work.

And you haven't checked the fuse yet?

If you have, that's something worth mentioning...and any other diagnostics you've done.

thanks for the quick reply and making me go take a second look at it.i tested it with my multimeter and it was dead. so i put the MM on the battery just to check. good. than i tested the blower. good. while i was down there i noticed something, i never put the fuse back in for the lighter...the switch works haha...it is acc not ignition switched 12v. its an armong switch. can i leave it as is hooked up to the cig lighter. if not im not scared to use the MM. thanks again

I don't see why you couldn't leave it hooked up to the cig lighter, unless you only want it on an IGN switched power source
