it sounds like the issue is the pulley bearing.

that being the case, just the bearing can/needs to be replaced.

remove the compressor clutch plate and the pulley.

take the pulley in to a local A/C shop.

They can press out the old bearing and press in a new one.

the cost should be somewhere b/t $30 and $60.
