if the last sentence in post #71 (rpm says zero BEFORE you push the clutch) is TRUE, then that, to me, still indicates the cam pos sensor. cuz that's the part of the car that reads the RPM in the first place.
I'd test it myself, if i had a VE. but I don't, i have a VG. tho i could perform a similar test... kindof.
a test you can try: go out on a road that has VERY LITTLE traffic, drive 45mph steady. then turn your key to ACC while going 45mph. of course, your engine will be off, but still spinning. push on the gas pedal a few times (you should hear the roar of the intake, as opening the throttle allows more air into the engine) then after 5 seconds, turn your key back to ON (don't hit Start! the engine is still spinning!) and resume driving. Tell me if that feels kindof like how the car behaves normally. (the difference is that this time, your speedometer WILL drop to zero, at the same time as the tachometer.)
