That's what I'm thinking; he's confused bottoming out with rubbing. The only thing that really changed was the tire profile.
And like the last poster said, you can grind away that tab in the rear wheel well that juts out (I used an angle grinder and sprayed it with rubberized undercoating) and rubbing will sometimes be eliminated that way.
