Got a knock sensor code, replaced Knock Sensor, Reset ECU?
Code went away, man that sucker was hard to get out... jesus... infact I broke 4 of them at the junkyard just taking them off... lol... I didn't want to get a junkyard one, cause I heard they go every 5 years, but I just wanted to see if this will fix anything before I blow $80.
Anyway, my SES light went off after I installed it from a 99 maxima, And that one sucked to get out because I guess the 99s autos had some kind of vacuum actuator pump right in front of that hole that the knock sensor goes in... Well NEways... my question...
How long does it take the ECU to fully re-learn everything to stock maps? Cause Motorvate says wen the knock sensor fails it tries to protect the engine by putting in like diagnostic curved maps by retarding engine timing. HE also said, low end power will be amazing better. So far I noticed it was a little smoother but not too sure if it really did help my low end power as much as ppl say, cause it feels pretty much the same. And yes, I started using Premium gas again.
And last question, should I reset my ECU instead of waiting? Cause I have a feeling that the SES light will come back sometime because the code was still there but the light was off, and I cleared the PO325 code. And no codes were found.

Don't worry, you won't have a crappy idle etc if you reset the ECU. It just take some mileage/drive cycles for the car to reach it's optimum settings. Not a big deal.

shudnt be a big prob.Just put it in, reset code, light should go away and then you should be fine.I have a 99 cali and hoping that i wont have to change it out anyday soo, cause it sounds and looks like a pain in the ***.

o btw, I didnt reset the ECU yet, but the car is now somewhat diesaling... and it pisseing me off because after I turn the car off it i hear and feel a little shake like the engine is going 2 more revs... I hope that this is not causing hot spots or anything bad... Should I just reset the ECU now? I still think I am getting bad mpg... I just put in 20 the other day which is 4 gallions exact over here and I got just barely 100miles out of it. And if this is a 16 gallion tank or 18.50(acording to MSN)?... Your telling me it will be $70-80 to fill a 16 gallion tank? Can't be...
This is the best way I can get MPG, but aprox it is saying with my math. 25MPG... Which is impossible...

how is 25mpg impossible? thats pretty standard for a good running max. Also why are you so afraid to reset the ECU, everyone is telling you to do it and there will be no problems. I probably reset my ECU atleast once a month since I work on my car quite a bit.

I am not affaird to reset it... lol, I just wanted to drive at least 50miles with this new knock sensor first before I did that... And I just don't get why my car is diesaling a little.
And 25mpg is impossible because it goes really really fast... lol, and my calipers are are putting on more resistence then they should, and my EGR tube is clogged but it has not thrown a code in a long time.

^its when the car pretty much doesn't quite shutoff right away when you turn it off and it will go like 1-2 more full revolutions. This can happen from hot spots in the engine, bad carbon deposits or leaky injectors. Basically once my spark and injectors stop the engine kinda shakes a little after I turn it off. Its annoying because I am a perfectionist with how and engine performs. IT really is not that bad as some other peoples cars or a car that is actually a diesel engine but I just hate it. lol

are you using the same gas station or you change them. I get the KS code when I change stations. Man..... the worts was when I drove from AR to UT. I tried to always stop at a Chevron or Texaco but when there wasn't one I used what ever there was and code was there for a while

Here is what I did after I changed my KS. I went to autozone and asked if they could clear the codes. They wouldn't do it saying that they weren't allowed to. I went to different autoparts shops asking if they could check the codes until I reached an advanced auto parts store and they just gave me the machine to use to check my codes. I went out there and cleared the codes without telling them, gave them back the machine. The KS code never showed up again. Give that a shot. After about three days I noticed an increase in low end power. It's not as big of a difference as some people let on but I did see an increase.

Holy s***. I will not be able to find someone to clear my codes in Autozone or some other part store. I have tried and they say No. I guess I will have to take off the minus cord of the battery and let it stay a day. Is there a way I can erase the codes through the ECU it self?

Yeah, all you need is a flathead screwdriver and it will take you 30 seconds. See the bottom of the page:

I used a flat screw driver and erased the code. Then I checked to make sure there is no codes. Now I plan on driving 75-100 miles and check the codes again. Hope the code does not come up again!

As I remember, I did have to clear the code after installing the KS. I also carefully cleaned up the ground contact as mentioned in previous replies.
The code was not going away until I cleared it. Since then (6 months now), it seems working fine (no KS code returning).
Good luck.
