Q45/J30 Caliper Fitting

excuse me for beating this to death but i have searched and did not find the answer to my question.

Will the Q45 calipers fit directly onto the spindle? I know the J30s will. I know they are very similar but i need to order some and want to know which ones to order.

Also I know that I need to milll down the rotor, so where can I take them to be Milled? Someone said Naapa does not do that. THanks ya'll

they will both fit but i would reccomend the j30 calipers. they both have the same mechanical specs but the j30 are physically smaller/lighter from the research i did.

You need the torque member for either application.

If you use the maxima torque member with the J30 caliper then all you have to do is a bit of grinding on the max torque member OR make a 1/16" or so spacer and do an even smaller amount of grinding on the max torque member, and you don't have to go through milling the rotors. Alternatively if you mill down the rotors you can use the J30 torque member and avoid doing the grinding on the torque member. Personally I'd do a little grinding on the torque member rather than losing 6-8mm off of the already small diameter rotors.

We did this exact same setup on a 4th gen and the procedure was identical.

i wouldn't say 300zx is easier, it's just different. you need to use different brake lines with the 300zx brake calipers or else you run the risk of ruining the calipers, still need to mill the rotors, and you need to worry about those wide *** 300zx calipers fitting under your wheels (which is a major issue many times, they stick way out). so either way you go takes some modification and what not. you don't need any rings if you use rotors from another nissan. you only need rings for things like Mustang Cobra rotors.

Or run the J/Q calipers w/ the 13" Cobra rotors. . I sell the brackets but no longer require the rings if you by Automax's redrilled units.
No grinding of rotors or caliper mounts. It DOES require about 10mm more wheel clearance (width) to run and you need 17" or larger wheels
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=351406 13" rotor, j/Q caliper upgrade.
Contact me if you want the brackets ($60 shipped)

All you need to do is mill 3 mm on the diameter. 6-8mm is way too much.

You are incorrect.

3-4mm is off the radius - that means 6-8mm off the diameter (radius x 2 = diameter) I've done that swap, I know what's involved. just 3mm off the diameter is not sufficient.

With either the Z or Q/J calipers, the rotor milling is the same. If you aren't using my brackets.

Interesting. I got the swap. 3 mm and that is all. Let me explain. J30 rotors, J30 calipers, J30 torque member, and J30 brake pads = 3mm off diameter also I checked the dimensions. You have experience, I have experience. Please don't say I'm wrong when I did it. Also, reading numbers off a ruler is very simple as I'm an airport engineer.

3 mm off the diameter if your going with the above said setup.

are there any benefits to using the J30 rotors vs the stock max rotors? i ask because i did my brakes last year and now want to upgrade w/ the J30 calipers. just don't want to buy another set of rotors. thanks.

Interesting - when I did the swap we had to go much more than 3mm off the diameter as stated. I bet that means there are perhaps some slight differences in the caliper shape between different J30 model years.
