Well, in response to some of the previous threads about horrible gas mileage. I was on the high way last night, and i rarely go the speed limit (I usually 80-85) I decided to do 65 mph and checked the mpg and found 32.6. Hmm is this accurate?? http://img532.imageshack.us/my.php?image=new01jm4.flv
I mean I was alone and no luggage with me, but still! I have an 06 Sonata and it has never....ever...ever read 30 mpg on the hwy, speed limit or not, and it's 200 lbs lighter, 30 hp/ lb-trq less than this car.
*In fact the highest reading last night was 32.9, but i had it on cruise and on slight incline it did 32 more or less.
My car is fully stock, though I use Royal Purple syn and premium gas.

I believe it is very possible.

I would get great gas mileage on 2+ hour road trips.

Yes, I believe it's accurate, I've gotten similar readings, as high as 31.5

If you get on the highway, hit the button to view MPG, and then hold it to reset it to zero...you will see anywhere from 30-35 MPG if you stay on cruise control.

If I reset it at that speed, it usually shows something ridiculous like 36 LOL

I reset every time I fill her up..and she hasn't been filled up in a whille...gas price is putting a dent in my pocket...15 bucks every time lol ghetttttttto

You probably do on the highway. Reset your counter next time you go for a highway drive. I had 32mpg on a 100mi higway trip, with just a little bit of city driving mixed in there. (I was cruising in the 70-90mph range) These cars do great on the highway for mileage.

Top off the fuel tank and see if you can drive 554.2 miles before you need a refill!!!

Actually it also depends on how you've been driving prior to viewing the average mileage, I suspect you will see a decline in city stop and go traffic or heavy footed driving...

I once got 34.2mpg out of a tank of gas driving from Atlanta to Chicago. I was almost in Chicago when I had to stop and fill up. At that rate, i calculated that I could have gotten 684 miles out of it. Thank God for the person who decided to put a 20 gallon tank on this generation Maxima!

But for some reason, I notice that my car always gets good gas mileage. The lowest that I have gotten on the interstate is 28mpg. The lowest that I have seen in the city is 21mpg. But Atlanta, is all interstate anyway, so that helps.

^^ 21 MPG is still good for city driving. I tend to accelerate on 1st and 2nd gear just to beat the light so i tend to avg around in the upper teens in nyc.

yep- when my light goes on, I usually have 5 gallons remaining. One time I thought I had to be so close to E but still was only able to put in 17 gallons, so 500 miles on a tank of gas is realistic. 600+ for those who get 30+mpg on the highway.

I've taken drives from Chicago to Madison, WI w/ 1200lbs of passengers, 70mph and can get 30mpg. It's when you hit the street to street traffic when mpg drops like a stone.

Hi All,
Looking for some insight. Just bought my 2007 Maxima brand new and the MPG is only up to 20.3. Is that accurate? Also, the DTE keeps changing -- goes down a few miles, then goes back up. Anyone had this experience?

These readings were at 41 mph about 1650rpm in 5th gear [auto] this seems to be the best mpg I can get from my 06 Maxima, but unable to drive more than a dozen miles or so before catching a red light. As you can see the AC was on.

phoxdavis - Your situation sounds fairly normal. These folks getting 30 or so MPG are on open freeways with little or no hills. No way the Maxima gets that kind of mileage on surface streets or suburban roads, even if there were no stop lights. In fact, most Maximas get more like 27 to 29 MPH on freeway trips, which is still excellent with a big strong 3.5 engine and the roomiest sedan in its class.

The DTE is constantly recalculated, and the result will be different each time because the computer finds your MPG constantly varies very slightly as you are riding along.

hey guys, i'm new here and new with a maxima, just got my 05 sl about a month ago...and i was wondering something.
everytime i fill up the tank when the light comes on, or its right above the e, i can only put in less than 15 gallons, but everything i read says its a 20 gallon tank. did some of them get 15 gallon tanks? or what is going on with this?

I feel like my dad's gas estimator is a little off. Three times I have done the hard math and it was off about 3 mph twice. The other time it was pretty much dead on. It is surprising how great gas mileage these things get for being that big.

ive been putting in the cheap gasoline, here in mo its 87. should i be putting in the premium gas? i noticed a couple that said they put in 93...is it worth the extra $ for the premium?

^ ^ ^ You're welcome, Nissan recommends premium fuel for your Maxima, I believe the majority of members here use premium. You'll get better performance & higher MPG, however it will now take several tank fulls before your ecu fully adjusts [advances] the ignition timing to take advantage of the premium fuel. I$ it worth it?, I think so, I always use premium

I'm amazed! Today I filled up with my second tank of Sunoco premium. I reset my trip odo, and the MPG. I drove home today getting 34 MPG at 60-65MPH, wow this car rocks. Buying this car, I thought I would never achieve the 28MPG Nissan states. Did they underestimate it on purpose? Power and economy!

Reset the mpg in your computer, drive with your cruise set at 55 mph for two miles, and then watch the mpg on your computer. It will be at least 27 mpg unless one of your mods is messing up your mpg.

I see you have 20" chrome wheels. Hope you know that the weight of wheels is one of the most sensitive to mpg. That might be your reason for low mpg.
