When I received the car, after a bath and a GXE rim swap:
Why I am nominating myself for MOTM:
By the time I was entering kindergarten I already had a fascination with cars. In 1995, at five years old, I remember going with my dad up to the Nissan dealership to test drive a Black Emerald Green 1994 VG Automatic. Ever since then, and the purchase slightly after the test drive, I've always loved Maxima's. Growing up with the car I have a lot of cheesy memories of listening to music in it with my sister, taking road trips, and among other things; helping my dad perform routine maintenance.
It was then I realized I wanted a maxima too, despite the two transmission rebuilds it had already undergone by my sixteenth birthday. Though at sixteen, I was handed down the maxima. After driving and bonding with it I decided I needed more, so I found maxima.org. After learning as much as I could, swapping idea's, fixing up my maxima, and tinkering here and there. I decided the best bet for me was to find a good condition 3rd gen SE and mod that since it had the platform I wanted.
I found my 1993 SE for $2,200 in January of 2007. I had a job at the time and worked hard to pay it off by myself. Since then, 60% or more of all of my earnings have been put towards my car and countless hours have been spent working and learning. The car has come a long way in a year with under $3,000 of total investment. Being cheap and tastefully modding a car has been one of the hardest jobs to do this far, but I never cut corners, and my car has only been near a shop if it's needed exhaust welding. I realized after all the parts I ended up buying for the max, it may be cheaper and more efficient to find a parts car, so that's exactly what I bought. A Gold 1994 SE with 5-spd conversion in which I am in the midst of swapping to my car. Including a short throw shifter and ACT Stage 1 Clutch. I am confident enough to say I was the only person in my neighborhood to be obsessed enough to have three third gens parked in their standard 2 lot yard.
It is almost my one year anniversary with the car and would be an honor to be maxima of the month on the one website I put before my family... heh, Just kidding, but close. Anyway, here are some current pictures of the car.
