APEXi RSM: Impressions

well, finally installed the RSM in my car yesterday.(Thanks to Y2KevSE for emailing me with the wiring diagram).

my first impression of the RSM is pretty good.
although you have to change number of different settings to obtain accurate results of your runs with the RSM(like tire size, speedo settings and such). my settins were so off and once i got a 1/4mile run of 24.67sec at 97mph...
after some 'tuning' of the RSM, the best run of my early-morning test runs in Irvine netted a 6.33sec 0-100km run. (yeah, it's only in kilometers, good thing for the Canucks). i had some wheelspin problems when i launched the car and probably killed what's left of my clutch by now. Anywayz, i wasn't able to do more runs(doing tire screeching launches and 100mph runs in your neighborhood at 3 in the morning just attracts too much attention), but i'm hoping to do some more testing real soon.

the optional G-sensor works really good. although i didn't have time for any canyon runnning last night, the higest G i pulled last night on freeway on-ramps were 0.67G. the RSM also has a replay/pause feature where u can look up the best results/runs without you having to look at your number while you are driving(don't do this, cuz it's really dangerous )

since the RSM is made for Japanese market, eveything about the RSM is made for right-hand drive cars. the speed is indicated with KM instead of MPH. even the joystick is located far away from the driver, and you have to reach out instead of reach in to control functions. the joystick is very smooth and easy to operate, but it can get little confusing if you tried to operate it while you were driving.

i mounted my RSM right below the stereo. since i have a GXE with aftermarket single din headunit, i had an empty slot right below the headunit. the RSM won't fit in that slot tho, it's slightly bigger so it's not a flush mount. but still good enough for me. i will try to take some pictures by next week and try to post it up here.

I think it is a really fun toy. You are right about playing with it while you are driving, it can be very dangerous. So far the highest g's i have gotten was .99. Right now i dont feel safe trying to get any higher than that.

dang..trying to calibrate the speed was kinda tricky.(since i don't know the diameter of stock tires and mine)...anywayz..got it as close as i can and ran 0-100km again at the same street coming back home. got the numbers to drop from 6.33 to 6.10 0-100km..which is pretty good cuz it means i did 0-60 in less than 6 sec.. i guess i'm getting better at this..

dang, .99g, eh? must have been fun..can't find any roads that twists and turns like that near irvine and don't wanna drive to the mountains just to test the G-sensor..i did pull .79g today on freeway(57 to the 60). that was kinda fun..

Yeah irvine78, a sticky would be nice since you installed it yourself.

make sure you ask Kev for the diagram...with the diagram, the install takes like 20 minutes or less..

I don't know about that one. I PM Kev for the diagram and he hasn't sent it yet. It must only be distributed to the elite org members.

Hey Keving,

when you went to the miata tire calculator thingie, what did you get and what did you plug into the RSM. I got -.9% so do I put the correction factor at 99% because it starts out at 100% right.
thanks. G

(New circumference - Old circumference) / Old circumference = correction percentage

New = 235/45/17 = 79.6 in.
Old = 225/50/17 = 81.2 in.

(79.6 - 81.2) / 81.2 = -0.019704433497536945812807881773399

-0.019704433497536945812807881773399 X 100 ~= -2.0%

So, I'm 98%.

(79.5-78.8)/79.5 = .008850

.008850 x 100 = .9%

so I am at 99%

Thanks Keving,

you are ghey by the way.

Is there anything Kev don't know?

so, mine would be...(78.8-80.1)/80.1=-1.622971286

-1.622971286x100=-1.6

so i'm at 98% then...hmmm...need 235/40/18 tires...225s are too narrow..

I know your IP address!

You're stuck in between a rock and a hard place. It really bites that your number is so close to the middle.
