Is this normal on new struts?

I just finally got around to getting new struts on my car, ordered KYB and new mounts for front and rear. As I was reassembling the rear back together, and clocking them, the right position where the coil spring seats as well the mount. As I was putting the wheel back down on the ground, I noticed the wheel gap is much wider than my old struts. I thought , geez, did i put the strut facing the wrong way, but then I know the springs are the originals OEM, but why would it be much wider gap? Any idea or experience?
