02 6spd tranny noise ???
Over the last year or so there has been a noise getting slowly louder. It is only there when the tranny is engaged and the car is moving. It sounds like when you put a card in your bike spokes as a kid. If moving, and I push in the clutch the sounds goes away... The clutch doesn't slip, although I don't know when it was last replaced. Could this be internal to the tranny (bearing or something) or possibly the clutch? How can I tell the difference? Ideas would be great.

Ok, 1 vote for pulling the tranny... anyone else? Also, should I put in better parts or just do a plain rebuild? (PS. I don't ever race the car, just drive spirited every once and awhile)
Edit: More searching... could this be the input shaft bearing? Seems an issue on 5spds... (mine is 6spd)
If I pull it to do bearings do I rebuild everything? Money doesn't grow on trees but I want it right...

So you hear the sound when you are releasing the clutch from a stop? And it's mostly a howling type sound? If so, it's the throwout bearing. You can either live with it for a while or replace it and swap out the clutch while you are in there for it is a very involved job.
I have this sound and I'm just dealing with it. I only hear it on occasion when the car is cold and it goes away after a few stops. I have a baby on the way and don't feel like dishing out the $1,000 for a clutch, flywheel and throwout bearing & labor. (my guesstimate on cost - not a quote)

There are actually 2 noises... one is a howling type sound. Transmission in Neutral, engine idle. I let out the clutch and I hear the howling noise, if I push in the pedal no sound.
Second noise, car moving clutch pedal out... when I give it gas it sounds like the card in the spoke noise. If I push in the pedal while moving, sound goes away.
