power moonroof problem on '02 Maxima SE

I've been having an issue with my power moonroof not responding to the switch. I flip it back, nothing happens or it'll open halfway. I try closing it and it either doesn't respond, or closes it halfway, and occasionally all the way. It's random, so sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. The troubling issue is when it doesn't close and it's about to rain!

Also - it randomly tilts while I'm driving and NOT touching the swtich! I'll be on the highway, and suddenly I can hear the moonroof tilt. Sure enough, it's opened itself on its own.

I've tried resetting it to no avail. Next steps?

How exactly did you reset it?

I get a random opening once in a blue moon also. So i think it is a normal glitch.

Next step if you reset it properly is to check the tracks, and check this thread.

I've tried holding the tilt closed button for 5-10 seconds as mentioned on this forum to reset the switch, to no avail. I disconnected and reconnected the battery as well to see if that would help, which is has not.

I'm guessing it's a bad switch. I just went down and opened it all the way, then slid the switch to close it and nothing happened. So I slid it back, then slid it closed again, still nothing. The third time it finally closed, but only part way. So I had to open it again, then slide it closed again and it finally worked.

I looked at that thread, and it's not physically being held up by anything. It's just not responding to 50% of the switch commands. So maybe I should try replacing the switch? Not sure how to do that...

Try doing the sunroof reset procedure. Sometimes the main switch will lose it's calibration.

You can either search for it here or if you still have your owner's manual it's outlined in the sunroof section.

You can also try taking apart the switch and cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser then re-lube it with some electronics lube. Then do the sunroof reset procedure.
