00 to 03 Downpipe swap question

Is it even possible? My girlfriend bought a 00 Maxima and it has lots of exhaust issues. I have the OEM Manifolds and downpipe from my 03 when I installed my headers. Would I be able to leave her manifolds and install my downpipe on her car to eliminate the issues that she is having?

Take a quick look under the car and if the front exhaust manifold looks the same as yours you are good to go.

Ill try, but I'm afraid that it might not look right because of the previous owner hacking the exhaust up. There are leaks and missing oxygen sensor bungs and more...

It is possible. Any 1995-2003 exhaust portion will bolt right up as long as you use the corresponding manifolds. I am running 4th gen manifolds and a Y-pipe, now I DID have to weld on 2 O2 bungs which wasn't a big deal. Your 03 manifolds and precats will bolt right up to your GF's 00 AS well as having 4 O2 sensors which the car should have to begin with.

The 00 manifolds hook up to different catalytic converters. So you would have to swap manifolds and y-pipe.

Isn't that why most 5 gen guys just get a y-pipe and 5.5 gens get headers? The 00 has the cat built into the y-pipe. 03 has 2 precats in front of the y-pipe

I think you are bringing up the fact that the 00 could be a fed spec car. The fed spec cars had the precats built into the y-pipe as you said. Cali spec cars had the separate precats that became standard on all cars.

If the 00 was fed spec and assuming you could bolt up the 03 precats, you might have O2 problems. The fed spec cars had only 3 O2 sensors while the cali cars had 4. If you plugged up the 2 downstream sensors on the 03 exhaust and continued to use the original 00 downstream sensor, I think it might work.

I guess I forgot to mention that her 00 is a Canadian model

Dude... if you have the entire exhaust from the manifolds to the cat off of your 03 just take all that and swap it into her car... done. Make sure you gut the precats though, wouldn't want that going into the VQ30

That's exactly it. You might need the manifolds I cant remember if the precats are interchangeable between years, that why I said just use the entire thing and it'll work out fine. More than likely better than what's on there now.

My only suggestion is like before to find a way to take all that ceramic junk out of there, or keep them as is if you don't want the added pain of the foulers, or possibly getting a new cat because you don't pass E-test blah blah B.S.

2000-2001 FED spec had BOTH Pre-cat's in the Y pipe.
2000-2001 CALI spec had ONE Pre-cat in the Y pipe
2002/2003 had NO precat's in the Y pipe
