They dont make a sprint booster for the 6th gen maxima. I have a 96 max and a 05 max.

My question is where the TB adapter plate and the elbow meet.. can that be opened up more? (the elbow opening)

When you test for intake restriction you see what atmo is for example: 98kpa
Then you hook up a gauge to the manifold and if it's like 90kpa you have a big restriction.

Take the air box off and see if it goes higher.. If not, then the box isn't a restriction.
Get a BBTB and see how that does ect.

Allot of cars come with a non restrictive throttle body unless it's modified like cams/headers/tune.
I have a 90 bmw that I tested and the throttle body is slightly
restrictive, but it's boosted now so it doesn't matter.

yea idk about the 6th gen sprint booster but for the 02-03 maxima they have it, and a 4th gen would not need it because it is cable driven so there is no throttle response delay

7th gens have it...they would need it with the CVT taking so much power from the car.

It would be great to see what the intake restrictions are. Im betting the elbow is the most restrictive after you have a bigger throttle body. Seeing as you go right back to the 70mm...

IIRC the stock bore on the elbow is 72mm, so you only need to open it 1.5mm all around.

I did it easily with a drill and flapper wheel.

If the stock elbow is 72mm then the TB is a bottleneck for sure.

The 72 millimeters really isn't too much of a bottleneck if you're still using the stock Maf. Which I think more people are then aren't.

Anyone done this mod with a large bore MAF as of yet? I'm interested in doing this, but at it stands, I'm just doing the Stillen popcharger with a stock maf and piping/with resonator. It seems to me that it would be a little counter intuitive to use the stock MAF size with this sort of mod. I would probably want to do the full monty for this mod.

I went from a 3" (76mm) ID to a 83mm ID Q45 MAF on my 3.5 hybrid before the 75mm TB. FWIW the larger MAF + stock TB had more of a butt dyno gain than larger MAF + 75mm TB.

Won't you need a tune and new mapping with a larger MAF?

The dyno results show it is not counter intuitive. If you use a larger MAF and piping then you will probably see better results.

And tuning will be required if a larger than stock Maf is used.

Did some daily driving on highway to work and noticed mpg goes down

Just wanted to let you all know on the highway the throttle body is peppy. I can see cars disappear more in rear view then ever before.

The downside I notice is I need to be a lot more conservative on the gas. If I hover around 72 at 3000-3100 rpms I get around 24.0 mpg in 4th on my auto.

If I dig into the throttle I have seen it dip to 22.6 mpg. I see the MPG moving more frequently now. I think tuning my car with the turbo xs utec should help resolve some issues. I also know light to light cruising and idle my mpg seems worse. Anyone else have this problem?

Apparently 24 mpg is the norm I guess. I have gotten to 24.5 at best. I also know that I need air in my tires. This might bump it back. It has been hot here. Let me try that and see what it does. I just never noticed a huge jump in mpg pegging it until now. Maybe that means its working LOL.

More air = more gas. Welcome to the wonderful world of mods! I get about 20-21mpg in my turbo 3.5L Maxima. You can try to tune it out, but usually a tune will get you more power....= more fuel. You can tune light cruising to run around 15.0-15.1 ish to save gas, but when you accelerating the tune will be to get that power....so you will need more fuel.

At 72 mph I'm only turning about 2600 - 2700 rpms.

Stay tuned. (no pun intended)

And again, with Maximas all logic is essentially tossed out the door as I've said before. 3" exhaust, 4" intakes, 440cc (very big) injectors for NA, all of which had anyone said anything about these mods 8-10 years ago would have been tossed to the wolves because logic does not support the theory. But we found it, they work.

Does anyone have this tb mated to a TRUE CAI ? i.e. cattman or anything that goes into the fender?

In my expereince, and as what I said earlier regarding logic, I believe true CAI's are overated. I've done many many IAT logs, and it really only comes into play when in stop and go traffic, a palce where you really don't need/want an intake anyhow. My IAT's on the highway (45+MPH), and moderate (30MPH) speed cruising are typically ambient ± 3ºC.

Our worst enemy is the aluminum getting heat soaked, and there's very little we can do about that.

I am willing to bet any car properly set-up with a 3" or larger MAF and associated tubing would outperform a car set-up properly with a PRCAI.

But to asnwer your question, considering how young this mod is, and how rare a truae CAI is these days, I'd bet the asnwer is no.

LR/RR MAF is 82mm, this one is around 100mm. 440's or greater are a must with it.

The stock coupler on the cold air snorkel always comes off on mine.
Is that the case with you guys too?

Is there a common fix?

Where it meets where the other piece sits on top of the radiator?

Yeah, happened so often I got medieval with it and used a screw in there acting as a pin.

I just grabbed an elbow from the salvage yard and the opening was 73mm, so i did some fancy grinding, took out some of the shelf, and got it to 74mm. Going to 75 would be a ton of grinding to make it worthwhile. It can be done though. I just hate grinding aluminum because it clogs up carbide burrs, and stones.

I will be mating my BBTB with an 80mm ID BBMAF and velocity stack. Dyno tune will follow in a few weeks. I will also be cermaic coating the elbow and upper IM, the lower is already done.

You beast mode you

I am doing the same, grinding the elbow. No point having it go small again after the TB.

I just found the shelf started way too early, almost like it was acting as a blockage. I still need to smooth it out a bit.

I actually got my mileage back up to 24.8 mpg! What I ended up doing was filling tires to 40 psi, alignment, and a crankcase breather filter. The nipple coming off my intake pipe was a restriction. The air in tires upped it to high 23 mark but the crankcase filter helped get me in the high 24 range!!

I also know for a fact when you start making cars suck in a lot more air a catch can and or breather filter is needed on the valve cover or you burn oil in your intake tract from the valve cover. I had a similar issue on my Celica. I also noticed after the breather filter it eliminated the oil smell id get after a hard run on the Maxima. I recommend a breather filter to anyone who is modding heavily. It will save on oil consumption and your mileage will go up due to less oil being burnt during combustion.

yeah, mods dont cause bad gas mileage, if anything in general they will lead to better mileage because they facilitate a more efficient burn. Your car only needs x amount of power to go y speed and engine modifications dont change that. Its keeping your foot out of the go pedal once its modified that is the trick.

DANG 40psi? I usually fill to 32psi. Yeah I put breather filters on both my valve covers it helps but still burns.

Yup...isnt that the whole point of modding? Why mod if you just going to stay regular driving?

I also know for a fact when you start making cars suck in a lot more air a catch can and or breather filter is needed on the valve cover or you burn oil in your intake tract from the valve cover. I had a similar issue on my Celica. I also noticed after the breather filter it eliminated the oil smell id get after a hard run on the Maxima. I recommend a breather filter to anyone who is modding heavily. It will save on oil consumption and your mileage will go up due to less oil being burnt during combustion.
Is 40 PSI safe?
