knocking noise at idle inside cabin only.

ive had my maxima for about 2 weeks now and it drives good, no engine lights etc. But since i bought it the car makes a knocking noise at idle and goes away when driving. It can only really be heard inside the car, ive been researching on here and google and i cant find a solid answer, although some people say the fuel dampers may cause the noise and others say these engines just make the noise. Anyone have this problem?

Do you have a front strut tie bar? If you do it may be knocking against the UIM/Intake Elbow.

What rpm above idle does the noise go away?

Hey everyone,

First time poster here.

Going to bring this thread back to life. My 2003 Nissan Maxima 6-Speed is having the same issues, where it makes a knocking/ticking noise at idle and goes away when driving. It can only really be heard inside the car, with it sometimes being very loud, sometimes very faint.

The knocks are distinctly audible at lowest (idle) rpm with a few knocks per second, with revving to higher rpm knocks no longer being discernible.

My car is 100% stock with 98,000kms. I've read that it could be fuel dampers or fuel pressure regulator, but haven't been able to find a definitive solution.

I've posted a youtube link of my car with the noise (listening with headphones will help identify the noise). Please note that the AC/Fan is turned off while recording.

Any help in diagnosing this problem is really appreciated!

That noise goes up and down with engine rpm. That means it engine related. to be completely honest man it sounds like a bearing, or something a loose like a pulley.

Going out on a limb, but I had plastic slapping/ticking noise when I forgot to tighten the bolts on the engine cover. Most likely not your case just my 2c.
