any 5.5 gen clear lens fog lights out there?

I put some 55w hids in my oem fogs and the snow and the hid heat has cracked them both. I want to get a set of aftermarket plastic CLEAR fogs but I can't find any. All the aftermarkets have the vertical stripes. I found some online that are clear for the 00/01 model but i don't know if there is a way to modify either the fogs or the bumper a little to make them fit in my 2002.
Any suggestions?

stick with oem 02/03, or take out the old cracked lenses and cut your own clears to fit the housing and seal them in.
they did not crack with the heat and snow.. ive had 55W HID 6000K bulbs in my fogs for 3 years through 3 canadian winters and the only reason one of my fogs cracked was with a stone that got thrown off a truck tire. something similar must have happened to yours.

them canadian winters be *****ez

HID doesn't create alot of heat like halogen....You must have some El Cheapos aftermarket Oem Replacements....Lamin-X on Oem last forever! Mine are 10 yrs old now!

True. How does that process work? (being lazy to )

I'm on my second set because the OEM's cracked if I looked at them wrong.

Guys, don't mean ANY disrespect. Just because you keep repeating this does not make it fact. Reality is the 55watts DO run hot. Some have luck and their lenses don't have cracking. I know for a fact that my 55w run hot because they 1. Feel hot to touch (I will run them and do a thermal reading this weekend). 2. The plastic shield I got has grayed in the center, closest to the bulb.

Now, this may be a problem running H3 HID bulbs, which are long. Those are the bulbs I had when I experienced cracks and graying. I have since swapped them out for H3c (shorty) bulbs. With that said, I expect to see elevated temps, and although I'm not going to go through the trouble to swap a set of H3's in, I believe I would obtain an even higher temp reading with those given they would be closer to the lense.

I'm curious to know what bulbs everyone is running who has and has not had cracking in a 55w HID foglight setup.

I've had 3 fog lights crack running 55w HIDs. Two were depot (wasnt surprised) and one has been an oem replacement WITH the plastic shield (thickest they sell). The oem cracke in less than a year after replacement. NO sign of physical impact in lense or damage to plastic sheild. I'm just waiting for my driver side oem fog to crack.

55w was free when I first got my 5.5gen. Wish I had known the issues I was going to have! I've looked into getting a 35w system. I believe I need to, and will eventually. But hard to justify the cost when one lense is already cracked. SMH.

Post #19 sums up my experience in words much more articuluate than I could say them regarding HID.

http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...Halogen/page2&

Post #3 talks about similar dynamics and placement within a housing and how impacts temp/heat.

http://teamzx2.com/threads/27806-HID...en-Temperature

Location/placement comments discussed seem to confirm my observation about the bulb and proximity to the lens. Consistent peice of information here, don't use 55w HID's.

Just googled and this topic is gone over in many places. Regretable peice is that there still doesn't seem like anyone can talk on a more application level about temp difference aside from in regards to the filiments.

H3s I think, isn't that what our fogs take? Whatever came in the 55w DDM kit.

Works flawlessly, easy to install, inexpensive, significantly more light output vs. stock. Matches headlights now.

Are the people blowing through fogs using OEM or fleabay replacements? Mine are OEM and I have 100k on the dial.

edit:
OP just fit some projectors in their if you really want lightoutput. I swear the stock fogs are rather useless for lighting up the road regardless of halogens or 55w HIDs.

H3c is the H3 "mini" (short) version. I've gone through two depots fogs and one oem on H3 55w HID. My second oem fog has not cracked; now running shorter H3c's.

Thank you all for your replies, but seems like you didn't get my question. I'm happy with my 55w H3 fog light kit, I just want a clear plastic housing, and if the 2000/01 max would fit the 02 with some mods?
MrEous was the one who understood me better.

BTW, 55W hids DO get real hot! turn them on a minute, turn them off in the dark and quickly see the bulb, it turns kind of orange because of so much heat.

Thank you all

The fogs from some Pathfinders ('03 or '04 IIRC) have clear lenses and can possibly fit 5.5 gens. There was a thread about it here a couple months ago but I can't find it.

I thought armadas were the ones with round and the pathfinders were square?

IMO if anyone wants to waste time on our foglights install some projectors. All other 'upgrades' are kinda worthless. I only put 55w in to match my headlights, not for light output.

I'm almost positive the thread talked about Pathfinders. It must have been the fogs from the redesign in '05 which are round. It's just something for the OP to look into if they have the time.

Im running a clear lens with no lines, as far as i know im the first person to do it. My buddy and i made it a month or two back, and we did another for a customer with projectors in the fogs with the clear lens, light output is bananas!
