like the title states im just wondering if there are any performance mods that can be done for free or fairly cheap.it seems every car i have owned seems to have some sort of freebie mods section that you can do to free up some hp but i haven't found anything yet for my 03 maxima.thanks

if you wanted to do the VIAS on the cheap, i.e. free, you could just remove the butterfly valve from your existing plate. just one screw to take of the butterfly, and you can put it back on if you feel like it. it wont give you 100% the performance of a true block off plate, but its close.

if you got the time as tools as well, gutting your cats is also technically free... until smog test time anyways lol

Anyways, I consider my car 'project-budget'.

-I took the intake baffle out and straight piped it with a spectre intake section, then did the ghetto-air-box mod which works great.
-Gutted the precats (still passed emissions with the spark-plug anti-fouler trick)
-Had a VIAS block off plate machined by my step dad using a template I made
-Soon I am using a g35 coupe midpipe i have laying around to replace the main cat(gonna use the resonator off of it and cut it down to size and weld flanges on for direct replacement)

I think everyone here in northern Indiana guts their cats lol.I know I have on just about every car I've owned but then again they don't do smog test here.
