Exedy Stage 1 + Fidanza flywheel + STS

Ok guys, so I've heard mixed things about this setup. Do any of you know if there will be "chatter" with this combination at all? Also if any of you are in San Diego, do you know of a place where I can get this stuff installed? (reputable/knowledgeable place preferred of course) called this place today and they guy was telling me not to go with a "stage anything" because it will wear down the flywheel faster than an OEM clutch, even though I told him I was upgrading the OEM flywheel with the Fidanza. I'm assuming there is SOME truth to this, but not as bad as he was trying to make it out to be. Thank you

Exedy stage 1 is OEM setup from what I have read here...or at least Nissan uses Exedy to make OEM clutch disks.

I don't have information on the setup other than a 4th gen friend that had an issue with the Exedy+Fidanza setup...he did have chatter. But that should go without saying I doubt he broke it in correctly.

Myself, I went with a Bahnhof clutch and Fidanza setup. Installed 2 wks ago and 1/4m tracked it yesterday with -0- slippage and -0- chatter, I'm a very happy camper.

Check your local forums (at the bottom of the forum listings) for your area. There might be some Maxima owners that can help.

Hi,

Have you searched the forum? Your tolerance for "chatter" boils down to personal preference. The feel from the Exedy stage 1 is a little more harsh than their OE replacement (to caveat what the post above me states, they are in fact different), but carries a rating of over 300lb·ft wheel for their VQ30 application. Some find that it is too much feel for encountering daily stop-and-go traffic, so unless you need that kind of torque capacity, their OE-type may suit better.

The Fidanza flywheel is a single-mass unit, just like the OE VQ30 flywheel, so there should be no issues there. Complaints about NVH with lightweight flywheels are usually when people go from a dual-mass to a single mass and are not yet adjusted to more foot precision from a stop.

Fidanza and exedy stage 1 was the setup I went with and I dont regret it. I have 0 chatter. The fidanza is solid mass but the exedy stage 1 is spring loaded = ideal. This makes it like most setups and the only way it should be setup.

a good read

I have the same setup. The only downfall is that the flywheel ends up being so light that you get a little delay if you don't shift at the perfect time. Once you get used to it and rev higher, you're good. No chatter at all and I haven't gotten a lick of wear.

A little delay as far as what? 0.o I've also heard that the gear around the flywheel is prone to coming loose for some odd reason? IE this
Also for those of you with the set up, what kind of improvements should I expect to see? Been pretty excited about the whole thing.

Read this. It's my experience when I switched to an Exedy OE Replacement with Fidanza Aluminum. I later switched to Exedy Stage 2 and basically got the same results.

Don't know what application that video was for but my fidanza had 9 bolts going around for the gear around the flywheel. Fidanza is also what JWT uses and I trust their knowledge.

Improvements...less stress on engine? There's a good weight difference between stock flywheel and lightweight.
Along with a minor UTEC tune I gained .3 in the 1/4 along with 4mph in trap speed. I have yet to go back to the dyno after only flywheel install but I definitely feel like I've gained tq.

I had some chatter in my car some months back- it ended up being a bearing in the trans.
