gas door actuator

I just replaced my gas door actuator and my gas door still doesn't pop open. Before, the black nub was snapped off the actuator so I'm guessing the previous owner had problems with the gas door.. Is there some sort of spring or something that I'm missing? Because I'm sure it would work if I kept the button pushed and had someone pry it open.

Had the same issue with mine. Yes there is a spring built into the gas door. I'm still not certain mine is right but I'll try to get a picture later. I ended up buying a new door on ebay (the old one was dented anyway).

Mine has been broken for 5 years. The door stays shut on its own and is sometimes.a pita to open with your fingernails.

Mine stopped popping open after my Maxima was sideswiped and the gas door was hit.

All I have to do is push in on the hinge side (left) and it opens up fine.

Mine would not open unless I hit the putten and pried it open. On cold days I needed a second person. One day I lubed the hinges up pretty good and it has worked fine ever since. Remember, always try the simple solutions before anything else!

Sounds like the door spring is broken. It looks more like a clip than a spring. Mounts on the inside back of the door and pushed the door open when actuator releases.

Part # 78836-AG00A. I purchased mine at local dealer for under $8.

78815P in this diagram (Same part as 6th gen Max as well)

Are you sure nismo? That doesn't seems to be connected to the actuator in any way. What are 78810D and 17255N?

The actuator is just a pin that holds it closed. The door is held in constant tension by that spring. When you pull the release, the pin slides back out of the way. The door springs open on its own. I'll try to get a pic of mine posted up later tonight.

78810D is the bumper/rubber stop. 17255N is the filler cap holder.

If all you are getting is the spring, buy it at your local dealer. The list price is $5.28. If you order it on line, the price is $3.99 but you'll have to pay shipping charges that could be $8 to $12 on top of that.

Yup. I'm sure. Use to stick a piece of plastic in between switch, jump out car and pull door open with credit card because spring was busted. ;-)

I'm pretty sure than in my local dealership $50 dollars will be the price for that part. And yes, I live in Mexico.

I just picked up a fuel door spring at my local dealership for just under $6. They had it in stock and when I saw it I realized I didn't even have one in place.

I don't really know for sure how to properly install it. Can anyone do me a favor and take a picture of their fuel door that is open pointing to the fuel door spring? That would be swell...

Awesome! Thank you...it works like a charm now. As to think I lived with it for over 7 years because I never looked into it. Damn body shop never put the door spring back on.

Changing my fuel door actuator on my maxima 2005

Hello - anyone out there who can give me some instructions on changing my fuel door actuator? These things seem to fail at the most inopportune time. Would really appreciate the info. Thanks
