6mt smoother shifting less 3rd grind anyone?
Had my passenger cv shaft replaced. Instead of trying to find motul to top up the half quart i threw in lucas synthetic oil stabilizer.
Thought it wouldn't hurt, man wasn't expecting the shifting to be twice as smooth and the 3rd gear crunch to be so minor i can use 3rd again regularly
its gotten very cold in the am over the last month since. still much improved cold shifting. might put in a full quart when i change the fluid again at 190-200mi.
Worth a try if ur 6mt is shifting like s....

MT85 worked great for me. Added in poly bushings and a NWP Tq Link and now shifts are even more smooth than some high end manual cars I have recently valet'd...love driving my car.

A little hard to explain but the best way I can put it is there always seemed to be a little 'give' when you let off the clutch, as if you felt the engine move a little. After the TQ Link, the engagement was much more precise and going into gears is more solid.

...because MT-85 is relatively new, that's all. I swapped out the Redline MT-90 for MT-85 after it came out. It was simply better gear oil for the Maxima. There have been a couple of threads here on the issue. Search the 5th gen forum on "MT85" or "MT-85".
And what the others have said is true... the NWP Torque Link, ES bushings on the shifter cable and under the shifter assembly, as well as ES bushings in the engine torque mounts. All those things help stabilize the engine/transmission and reduce the likelihood of the 3rd gear crunch.
I was an original owner of a 2003 6MT, and lived with the crunch forever until all those mods. In the end, no more crunch. (Lots of NVH, but that's the price.)

D'oh...I checked and it was MT85 I used. Updated previous threads above.
Also FWIW, the shiftice DIY was for MT90 but I'm sure that page was made well before MT85 came out. http://www.shiftice.com/redline_mt90.html
NVH >>> Sloppy shifting

I made the switch over a year ago so I'm very familiar with MT-85. Just wondering why it appeared people were still choosing to use MT-90 (not to mention straight MT-90).

It's human nature to accept the first solution you find. Silver bullets are very enticing.
Yes sir. I agree with that set of priorities.

I am going to be dropping my transmission to replace a worn clutch and figure it would be a good time to replace all of the engine/transmission mounts as well as the shift linkage bushings. Could you help with what bushings and mounts you purchased, as well as where to get them? Am I right in assuming 'ES' is Energy Suspension?
